  1. Say this: "Mom, Dad, I'm turning 16 soon and I think I am invincible, so it doesn't matter if I take a motorcycle safety course or drive defensively. It also doesn't make a difference if I drive in the rain or at night because I will never die. I want to look cool and you are ruining my high school coolness. Don't you want me to have spoiled friends and get STD's?"

Just kidding. Seriously, Your parents love you and are trying to protect you. I'm a motorcycle rider myself and it sucks for everyday transportation. I rock the h**l out of my Focus though!

  2. On secondary roads they are no more dangerous then a bicycle.  Let them know you'll be willing to take a safe driving course, stay on secondary roads and never travel far.

  3. Dont Do It!!!!

The Department Of Highway Safety says that riding a motorcycle or scooter WILL increase your chances of dying in an accident by 20xs!  Understand that....you will be 20xs more likely to die then your friends who drive cars.

  4. You maybe a good driver however its everyone else around , and more accidents do happen on motorbikes, I know my father owns a harley and he tells me all the time how much he has to watch his surroundings due to other cars how many accidents he has had to avoid. , and he is in his 60's which has several years up on you.

  5. The problem probably isn't your ability to ride a scooter as it is the other drivers on the road who don't pay attention because they are too busy eating, texting, shaving or are just plain boneheads. I ride a big, 800 pound motorcycle and I get cut off all the time. You just have to be more alert and aware of your surroundings than they are.

That said, a 50cc scooter isn't big enough to ride on freeways and I wouldn't recommend riding on highways or major roads. If you stuck to side streets, you're probably okay. Wear a helmet and proper clothing at all times.
