  1. If we censor kids anymore they will have to live in a bubble.  It's getting downright ridiculous.  They can't play in the playground anymore, they can't have any physical contact with each other, they can't watch this, where is the line going to be drawn?

What are we doing with our children?  You cannot protect them from everything and people are so paranoid it's not even funny.  Like this dad that got told that he couldn't take pictures of his own children and was called a pervert.

Seriously you guys.  I know they are our children and we don't want anything bad to happen to them.  But are we trying to raise a herd of clones that have no personality, no information and just become fat, lazy morons?

I am all for protecting my child.  But some people are taking it too far and frankly I'm sick of it.  This is not some n**i regime, but we are making it into one for our children with all the rules and regulations we're putting on them.

We're going to end up with children that have no clue and who hate us for stopping them from being kids.

  2. No I don't. With 100+ channels, countless books, newspapers, radio stations, etc, if you find something offensive, you can change what media outlets you and your kids are exposed to. By censoring to that degree, you are allowing parents to cut corners in their parenting. Media provides excellent opportunities to tell your kids what's appropriate for their age and what's not. However, it's different if censoring is to protect the wellbeing of a community of people, however big or small that community is.

  3. NOPE. Freedom of speech.

If parents don't want there kids seeing something, fine, don't let them. It is not the medias job to make sure your child doesn't hear something bad.

  4. i don't own a TV and this saves me from stressing about your inane concern.

  5. I don't think they should allow advertising on children's television and I think cable channels should be family friendly until 8 or 9pm unless they are clearly adult only channels.

I know I can monitor what he watches, but you are sometimes caught out when you were watching an ordinary show and someone says a rude word.

We generally stick to old 70's sitcom type shows until he goes to bed, because you weren't allowed to swear back in my day....

  6. We don't have TV.

Parents who do have TV should be extra vigilant when it comes to what their children watch. Ideally they should watch everything first before letting the children see it. No surprises that way.

Media is not intrinsically evil. It can be used for good. The burden of responsibility falls on the parent. We are the guardians of our children's souls.

  7. Where do you draw the line?  And I assume you're talking about the news, but media means everything--TV, radio, magazines, internet, EVERYTHING.  So, what restrictions do you call for?  What types of speech/behavior do you want to see censored? Would it really be acceptable under the First Amendment?  Also, we can only protect kids so much before they'll find out things on their own anyway.

  8. I hate some of the thing s taht kids see on internate and stuff- it's crazy I feel like my boyfriends son who is 14 has seen more then I have because he wonders the internate and TV... I think perants need to be more responsible

  9. No. Sheltering a child in this world is never the answer. Even at a young age a child should be able to talk to their parents at what they see. If they see a commercial that they would have no clue about such as a Cialis commerical and what it actually means. Does that mean you shouldn't send your child to school because there's a slight chance they maybe bullied? You can't protect children from everything.

  10. Yes. Do not own a TV because I think that media nowadays is just not good anymore

  11. If parents have a problem with media, then they are in control of what their kids are exposed to primarily. In a perfect world, yes it would be censored. Obviously we don't live in a perfect world, so it's the parents job to be just that...a parent. They don't have to have the cable tv, and iternet if they don't want to. It isn't something people need to live. The only good purpose of tv is the weather, and they have AM radio channels to get the weather out there. Totally on the parents.

  12. no.

parents need to stop being lazy and getting mad at the media when they are sitting on the couch eating cheetos. pay more attention to what kids are doing. they need to learn to parent them.

the tv is not a babysitter. turn it off and put a book in their hand and you wont have to worry about it.

  13. No. I should not have to watch censored kiddy media just because some people can't watch over what their children watch on the tv.

The state is not your nanny and neither is the media.

  14. I've never believed in a lot of censorship.  If someone wants to read or write or watch something, that's their choice... and our constitution guarantees them that right.

However, as a parent, I've been pretty appalled by whats out there, literally right in our kids' faces.  Take the check-out line at the grocery store, for instance.  It's lined with magazines, right at the height of a 6-year-old's eyes, with headlines like "How to have Hot s*x!"  Before I had kids, I never gave it a second thought.  But when you realize that your first grader is standing there sounding out "o-r-a-l  s-e-x", you want to sheild their eyes and run!  And this is the grocery store, for heaven's sake!

And then there's the big billboard on our local highway with a giant sperm on it and "Who's the daddy? Call 1-800-DNA-TEST"  So when your 8-year-old asks what that means, what do you say?  "Well, sweetie, some ladies have s*x with several men and don't know which one is the father, or maybe the daddy thinks the mommy was sleeping around... oh, wait, you don't know where babies come from yet, do you?  You're EIGHT!"  Uggghhhh.

So yeah.  I don't think we can or should infringe on people's right to freedom of speech... but some things shouldn't be in the public view where children are forced to see them!  Yes, you can change the TV channel and avoid certain movies and keep an eye on your kids' internet use, but what about the stuff that's out there for all to see?  You shouldn't have to keep your kids locked up or put a bag over their head every time you take them to the store!

  15. I think the parents should sensor the media they allow their children to watch or read.  Sheltering children doesn't do anything but make them slow, dumb and easy targets for scams.  Everyone should be educated on the facts of life and since rape, murder, crime, s*x, lies, guns and drugs are apart of life teach them the truth.

  16. no  why shud it be that's your job ?wot about all the people that don't own TV,s ? we don't have sky TV  and in UK TV is censored before 9 pm at night

  17. No. It's not the media's job to make sure kids never see or hear anything 'bad'. Parents have a responsibility to keep their kids from seeing what they don't need to see and explaining that which they can't prevent. My mother did it, and I turned out sane.
