Pargat Singh proposes to kick out hockey players who participated in WSH opening function
Pargat Singh, the Chairman of the Development Committee of Hockey India (HI), has proposed to fire all the five players of the national squad who missed the training camp to partake in the World Series Hockey (WSH) function in Mumbai, India.
It is vital to mention her that the five Indian hockey players, including Sardar Singh, Sandeep Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Adrian D’Souza and Arjun Halappa opted to join the multi-million dollar hockey event after the International Hockey Federation (FIH) cleared
the tournament and decided not to create hurdles in this regard.
Pargat Singh believes that the five above mentioned players imperilled the preparations of the Indian squad for the upcoming mega events, including the Champions Trophy and Qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics. He was of the view that these players should
be sacked over the clear violation of rules and regulations. He also issued a severe warning saying that he would not feel timid to prepare a completely new squad for the upcoming qualifying tournament.
Condemning the issue he stated that it was an extremely indiscipline matter. It is vital to mention here that as a Chairman of the Development Committee and Disciplinary Chief, he will present an inquiry report to Hockey India President in this regard.
He explained that the country comes first and not the money. He asserted, “No player is bigger than the nation. I told Sandeep Singh and Sardar, when they went for the Belgium league earlier this year and missed the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament, that the
country comes first. We are here because of hockey. I am not against players making money. But not at the cost of compromising national interests.”
Pargat Singh in clear words warned the players saying that they would say good bye to all the players if they opted to think otherwise. They can formulate a complete new squad even if they are not able compete in the 2012 London Olympics, but they will make
a good squad for the next 2016 Olympics.
The Chairman of the Development Committee expressed his feelings saying that the said players hurt him a lot by destabilising his efforts to put all the things on a system. The federation hired a foreign coach for a period of five years to formulate a proper
structure of the sport in the country, he added saying that they do not need of such struggle if players show such an irresponsible behaviour in the camps.
In his views, the WSH, the annual hockey league launched by the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) in joint venture with Nimbus Communication, will disturb the training programme of the coach. The tournament is scheduled to be held between the Champions Trophy
and the Qualifiers, which definitely disturb the training programme.
