AS Saint-Etienne dashed PSG’s hopes of remaining unbeaten in the league this season and join the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Juventus to become the invincibles
After going 10 games unbeaten in the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign, the oil-money-fuelled club from the French capital failed to continue their impressive run. AS Saint-Etienne, a team that has exceeded expectations this season and is currently sixth in the
league, proved too strong for the Parisiens in their own backyard.
Paris Saint-Germain caused their own downfall after an own goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mamadou-Sakho-c23293, provided the visitors with an opportunity to take control of the game. Les Verts’ cause was helped by the 70th minute red card of Ligue 1
top scorer, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029. With a man down, PSG tried to get back in the game but only after three minutes of Ibrahimovic’s sending off, Saint-Etienne put the game to bed.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been in tremendous form at the moment, scored for the visitors with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alejandro-Alonso-c4386 providing the assist for the goal. Saint-Etienne’s second goal took away the game from PSG and despite their best efforts, Paris Saint-Germain
failed to find a way back in the game. Although http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guillaume-Hoarau-c15332 managed to score for the hosts, it was nothing more than a consolation on their behalf and Christophe Galtier’s side emerged victorious at the end.
It was a great win for the club from Eastern-Central France but on the other hand, it has given birth to a number of questions regarding Paris Saint-Germain’s season.
The Paris club has spent heavily in the transfer market this season bringing in some of the best players in the world. Money is not a problem for the Parisiens and they have the ability and cash to lure any player in the world at Parc des Princes. However,
Paris Saint-Germain need to win something big this season to show that the club is not all about money and they mean business.
Winning the Championelle is the primary objective of the club and PSG looked on course to achieve that feat with ease until the Saint-Etienne game. The question that needed to be answer here is how the bosses and the players will handle this situation as
they are not used to be on the losing side.
Losing is a part of the game but to lose after such an impressive start and against a team who has very limited resources as compared to PSG, would be hard to digest for the Parisiens’ players.
Paris Saint-Germain have quality players at their disposal who have played in some of the best clubs in their career prior to joining the Paris revolution. Such players have the mentality to go through this unharmed.
However, their first defeat of the season hasn’t been welcomed well by the supporters, who were hoping to see their beloved team remain unbeaten this season and join the likes of Arsenal and Juventus, and become invincibles.
Although Paris Saint-Germain have returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, their real test would be the game against defending champions, Montpellier Herault.
MHSC are in dire need of a victory and they would be looking to get maximum points against PSG to give their campaign a much needed boost. But Paris Saint-Germain are not a team to let one defeat get on their nerves, and are expected to return to winning
ways when they travel to Stade de la Mosson this Sunday.
