Paris Saint-Germain on the verge of Europa League exit after Salzburg loss – Ligue 1 news
Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain’s woes continued as Antoine Kombouare’s men lost 2-0 to Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena in a crucial Europa League game.
Ahead of the game, PSG needed a win against the Austrians in order to secure progress to the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League. However, a 2-0 defeat now means that the Parisians must beat Athletic Bilbao in their last group game in order to give themselves
a chance of progression.
The defeat was PSG’s third in a row after the Ile side lost at home to Nancy Lorraine and Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1.

However, despite making some big changes, PSG looked a shadow of the side that started the season so well and a shaky defence was thoroughly punished by Salzburg who now have a great chance of qualifying for the last 16.
A determined Austrian side started the game better of the two and their will power was rewarded after 20 minutes. An unmarked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christoph-Leitgeb-c9167 cross in the 20th minute.
The PSG goal was bombarded from long distance by the Austrians and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 and Jantscher in the 11th and 23rd minute respectively. Argentine striker Gonzalo Zarate came close to adding to Salzburg’s
lead in the 30th and 34th minute but failed to hit the target.
Towards the end of the first half, Les Parisiens showed some attacking progress when Nene, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camara-c8277 and Jallet all came close to levelling the game for the Parisians. However, it was the same PSG side that showed lack of rhythm and ideas against Nancy and
Marseille.
The second half proved to be less eventful than the first as both sides failed to create that many chances.
However, in the 4th minute of injury time, the final nail in the PSG coffin was hammered when Dusan Svento lashed a dipping volley past Douchez to put the result beyond PSG who are now left with a mountain to climb.
The win takes Salzburg level on seven points with PSG. In their final game, PSG will host La Liga side Bilbao at the Parc des Princes and even if Kombouare’s men beat the Basque-club, they still won’t have any guarantees for qualification. Whipping boys
Slovan Bratislava will play Salzburg in their last game in Group F and if the Slovenians somehow manage to beat Salzburg, only then will PSG progress to the knockout stages.
