After a 2-0 win over AS Saint-Etienne, PSG are still in contention for their first Ligue 1 crown in over 18 years
Following Montpellier’s ill-tempered 2-2 draw with Evian TG, onus was on Paris Saint-Germain to get into touching distance with the league leaders. Ahead of the game against AS Saint-Etienne, PSG knew that they had no room for error.
Furthermore, Lille’s win over OGC Nice meant that Carlo Ancelotti’s side had to win against a strong AS Saint-Etienne side that’s vying for a place in next season’s Europa League.
Thanks to goals from Nene and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082, PSG registered a 2-0 win over the Rhone side. The win now means that PSG trail Montpellier by just three points. With only three games left, the Parisians still have a great chance of winning the Championelle
considering recent happenings at the Mosson.
And, the Ile press has been impressed with how the players have bounced backed after a morale sapping defeat to Lille a few days back.
L’Equipe called the victory “a bounce back” and said that “Paris reopens the debate” while talking about the two-horse race for the Championelle.
Le Parisien seemed more enthusiastic and the headline, “Paris is to dream again”, sums up the feelings of the club’s fans.
Certainly it seems to be a dream that can be realised if one looks at the fixture list of both PSG and Montpellier. PSG play the likes of Valenciennes, Stade Rennais and Lorient in their final three games while Montpellier face a tough task to beat the likes
of Stade Rennais, Lille and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AJ-Auxerre-c38247. The task becomes even tougher for Rene Girard’s men considering that they will be without the services of key player Younes Belhanda whose moment of madness may have caused the club the title.
However, Carlo Ancelotti is still keeping his cool and says that Montpellier are still favourites to win the title.
“Montpellier is more likely to be the champion but it’s not over,” said the former AC Milan manager.
However, one can see that the Italian really wants to lift the Championelle in his first season with the club and nothing can be ascertained at this point of time.
