Paris Saint-Germain want Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan – Portuguese Primeira Liga News
Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly targeted Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan and are looking to secure the services of the mercurial forward when the January transfer window reopens.
The Parisians have been one of the biggest spenders of the summer transfer market and dashed out millions to strengthen their squad.
Following the takeover by the Qatari Investment Authority, PSG have gone on to secure the services of some of the hottest properties in Europe. They have proven themselves as one of the biggest sides on the continent, with an almost unmatched spending power.
Arguably the biggest coup they pulled off was securing the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082, amidst heavy speculation that Chelsea were also in contention for the attacking midfielder.
Despite the considerable influx of talent during the summer break, it looks like the new Middle Eastern owners at Parc des Princes are not satisfied and are contemplating another major spending spree in January.
On top of their most wanted list is Nicolas Gaitan, who has been nothing short of a sensation for Benfica this term.
The winger signed for the Eagles after parting ways with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Boca-Juniors-c38658 and has become an instant hit at Estadio da Luz with his plethora of dazzling skills, deft touches and skilful crosses.
Attracting attention from the likes of Manchester United, Gaitan is one of the most talented players in the attacking department and his addition to the Paris Saint-Germain squad would make the club outright favourites for the league.
However extracting him from the clutches of Benfica and Jorge Jesus is not an easy task by any standard.
Not only does the 23-year-old pull the strings for the Reds but his overall game allows him to create a lot of opportunities for his teammates as well, so his importance to the side is quite high.
Benfica’s relations with PSG are also not at their best, as the French outfit tried to lure Luisao from Lisbon in the summer. The Brazilian had been the subject of much debated transfer saga in the last few months and almost made the switch to Paris.
However the Portuguese giants refused to sell their prized asset for nothing less than his buyout clause and Les Rouge-et-Bleu deemed his price tag too high for someone his age.
Nonetheless the speculation distanced the two sides and Benfica will be unwilling to do business with them.
Nicolas Gaitan’s agent also commented on the situation and revealed that his client was happy with his current employers.
"Gaitan still has a lot more to give. It is not worth it to talk about this or that club.”
"The important thing is that he is at Benfica, he is happy and doing very well,” Jose Iribarren was quoted as saying.
Despite the sour relations, if Paris Saint-Germain can cough up the right amount, Jorge Jesus would be willing to let his influential playmaker leave despite the consequences of his departure.
