  1. I like Open Tour.

As for Versailles, I agree with the other poster.  It's easy to get there on the train, which also is much cheaper than going with a group.

  2. If you do use public transportation to Versailles, do realize you have a 5-15 minute walk from the station to the gates. If you need assistance, then this is where private (tour) transportation would be better.

When choosing a tour company, be sure to research the itinerary. There are so many things to see, you don't want to limit yourself to what THEY choose.

  3. There are several tour companies all over Paris.  The one I used was called Paris Vision (I think).  You'll have no trouble finding tours and they're all about the same in my opinion.  A tip, take public transpotation to Versailles.

  4. Get a "Paris Pass" www.paris-pass.com  It offers admission to numerous attractions and museums including a Metro card good on metro, bus, etc.  The pass allows you to skip waiting in long ticket lines and you go straight to the entry.  They are good for a set number of days, 2, 4 or 6.  A bit pricey to start but will save quite a bit in the long run.

How does this relate to your question:  One of the attractions is a day are the double decker hop on hop off buses, with ear sets given that plug into a multi language audio system.  You can ride around the city listening or get off at one of the multiple stops, all in front of major tourist sites.  Then when done, hop back on.  They will send you maps when you order.  It really is easy, just don't lose the little Metro Pass which needs to be run throught the turnstile each time you board.

Definitely take pub trans to versaille. Metro & bus connection, or there is a train, locals will help, they are rather friendly (so long as you are not rude )and admission is included with the Paris Pass, only downside with the pass is that you will get to save two hours by not having to wait in the ticket line!!!,

    Enjoy your trip

  5. Paris vision is a good tour company.  Your hotel will no doubt be able to book the tour for you.  Another tip on Versailles.  Don't go.  It's a tourist trap, mostly empty, and the gardens are in ruin because they lost most of the trees in an ice storm a few seasons back.  Instead visit the chateau that was the prototype for Versailles.  It's fully restored, furnished and the gardens are the finest in France.
