Does anyone know of cheap accommodation in Paris. Near the Louve and Eifel Tower. We are only going over for a couple of days from Scotland.

  2. Hello!

First, there is no place like "near the Louvre and Eiffel Tower"…

The 2 places are are several kilometres away!

    You'll have to choice ;-)

My advice is to find something near the Louvre. It's in the center of Paris, and every places around are very nice, like the Latin Quarter.

You can look for a place in the 1st, 2d, 3rd, 4th and 6th districts:

there are all central and near the Louvre.

I prefere the 6th: lot of animation, students etc.

I don't know what you mean by cheap, but I can give you a little advice to make real savings:

rent a furnished studio for a weekend or a week.

It's often cheaper, but where you make real savings is on meals!

More and more hotels are charging the breakfast separately (+25 to 30€ for 2 people, in "not too expensive hotels"…).

But if you add the price of 2 meals per person per day, even you eat a sandwich or a salad at lunch and go to a small restaurant in the evening, is at least 50 to 80 more €uros!

In short, having a small "home" and to be able to make a breakfast and a meal oneself is often cool and much less expensive.

To find the kind of accommodation you seek, make Yahoo or Google search in French (more results).

You can try "Location gîte Paris", or "Location Studio Paris", and look on the maps: it's easier to see if the accommodation is central (best location!). If you know the area where you want to stay, you can add the district on your search (the nicer are 1st to 6) or the name of the area (St Germain, St Michel, Odéon, Quartier Latin…).

    that thus made:

"Location gîte Paris 6ème" or "Location gîte Paris Odéon" etc.

You can also visit a nice website:

    http://www.locationgite-paris.com

It's a very nice studio for 2, (small "nest lovers" type), in the 6th (Latin Quarter) and quiet, and not too expensive.

On the website, there are also a lot of tools to prepare your trip: lot of pictures, ideas for walks in the neighborhood and many links to monuments, museums, train stations, airports and so on.

And even a transportation map to see how to go to the Eiffel Tower (it's direct with the R.E.R "C")!

    Useful ;-)

Voilà! And sorry for my english: I'm French and I lack practice…

  3. If you are a student you can use Student Universe (studentuniverse.com) to book hostels or hotels in many European cities. I used them many time when I was traveling in Europe, never had a problem.

  4. The Eiffel tower is 3 kilometers from the Louvre - you can mapquest this. You can split the difference but if you stay closer to the Eiffel tower, you can stay on a charming (amost) pedestrian only street called, "Rue Cler." It's less than a kilometer from the Eiffel tower and if you want to hoof-it, it's 3 kilometers from the Louvre. I recommend taking the metro (0.2 kilometers from Rue Cler) to the underground entrance to the Louvre - bypassing the tour groups that enter at the glass pyramid.

I took someone's advice and stayed at the Grand Hotel Leveque. I cannot recommend this hotel. I should have went to tripadvisor.com and found a consensus rating for a hotel to stay at. In which case I would have stayed at the Hotel Motte Picquet. It is right on a metro station, near the Eiffel Tower. Rooms are 110 euro for a double and the reviews are excellent - not on Rue Cler, but close.

  5. As has already been said the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are in different parts of Paris. However, please note that Paris is a very compact city with the best public transportation system in the world. If you stay in the center of the city then there are few destinations that are more than 10 or 15 minutes by Metro.

A classic inexpensive hotel is the Hôtel Tiquetonne at 6 rue Tiquetonne in the 2nd arrondissmenet (Metro:Etienne Marcel). A double with private shower and WC is  50€ (taxes included). They have no internet presence so will will need to phone or fax for a reservation: Phone: 01-42-36-94-58  Fax: 01-42-36-02-94

On the Left Bank, the Hôtel des Alliés at 20 rue Berthollet in the 5th offers doubles at prices from 40€ to 69€. More information at their website: http://www.alliesparishotel.com/
