  1. As a french living in Paris I would say New Year Eve dinner OK - but a walk on the Champ-Elysees on the 31 evening is more and more at risk, the avenue being  overcrowded with multicolour suburb violent drunken people -  I would at any price not go there - and I never did -

  2. Sounds great - very romantic - you should aim to be on the Pont Des Artes around midnight for a great view of the Eiffel Tower in all its glory - with the buzz of revellers around you and the Seine drifting by below.

Hope you have a great trip

  3. I agree its a great idea as paris is a wonderful place to be on New Year's Eve.

What you will find is that New Year's Eve is usually celebrated with a big special dinner served at most restaurants. Wherever you decide to dine be sure to BOOK IN ADVANCE! Many popular restaurants already have their New Year's Eve menus posted and are taking reservations. Reservations are essential.

Heading for the Champs after dinner is an excellant choice. You'll find half of Paris there. The Place St. Michel and the plaza in front of Sacre Coeur would also be good choices.

  4. If you want an authentic Parisian experience, head to the Quartier Latin around 10pm and ring in the New Year while strolling its labyrinthine streets.  It won't cost you a thing, and it's filled with New Year's revelers (most of them Parisians) who engage in all manner of benign mischief:  One year, I saw a 90-year-old grandmother directing her grandchild in hiding and detonating harmless little firecrackers.  They were perfectly safe, of course; but had the intended effect of startling passerby.  It was charming!  Plus, you can stop in any of the hundreds of brasseries and bars for a New Year's drink.  It's pure Paris.

    Enjoy!

  5. Do a dinner cruise along the Seine.  Google Bateaux Parisiens or Bateaux Mouches.

  6. Definitely head to the Eiffel Tower for midnight. Champs Elysee sounds nice too!
