I have just booked some flights to paris, I need to know how you get from the airport (Charles de Gaulle) to the centre and which is the best district to stay in for ease of seeing the sights!

  1. All the guidebook answers are generally correct -- except for the train.  It is a truly unpleasant way to start  your stay and a real hassle with luggage.  The hotel you choose will suggest an airport pickup service.  This is usually a van that you may or may not share with others, depending on schedules.  It is around $45 pp  but you may get a break as a couple.  Well worth it.

Re place to stay -- unless you are 50+ and affluent, stay in the Maraiss, St. Germain or  Latin Quarter.  They are lovely, convenient, and have many suitable hotels.  Be careful not to be tempted with cheaper rates in the outer districts.  Even with the Metro, you don't want to spend all your time in transit.  Try a tidy, well located inexpensive place like the Agora or LaFamilia and splurge on a night cruise on the Seine that you will remember all your life.

  2. Hi,

There'sre several ways to get to the centre of Paris :

The quickest one is Train (RER B), 40 minutes from city centre. Around €10, but not the most friendly.

You can use Air France buses, very nice €12, but they do only three stops in Paris, and it may not be close from your hotel. (but always close from metro stations)

Or the easiest : taxi, but it costs around €30.

About your hotel, it depends on your likes, and budget. If you like luxury area, and if you can afford, book a room in 7th or 8th district (Invalides, Champs Elysées...)

If you like trendy area, near museum and lively nights, book a room in 4th district (Le marais) http://www.paris-city-guide.com/paris-ni...

Finally, if you want to be in the historic district, book a room in 5th or 6th district. It is the Latin quarter. It's touristy, but there's a lot of shops, schools, sights (like Notre Dame Cathedrale)...
