Question:

Paris shows?

Can anyone personally recommend one of the Paris shows? The only two I have looked at are Moulin rouge & Crazy horse but both are over £100/ticket - are they really worth it? We have 2 nights in Paris, one of which I have already booked up and I want something special for the other without blowing too much cash.

Any recommendations appreciated.

  1. We went to Le Lapin Agile on our last visit to Paris, and it was an amazing experience.

You are led into a fairly small room and seated at tables that sit about 8 people. You are offered the house drink of brandy with cherries in, very good it is too! You can pass and have a beer or soft drink. This is included in the price.

What is so amazing is the place is just the same as it was when Picasso and Modigliani and the other artists used to visit many years ago. There are paintings and sculpture's in the room given by different artists. The Picasso Harlequin has been sold and a reproduction is in its place.

The cabaret is provided by a group of seven people who enter, sit at an empty table and start to sing. Everything is in French, but when the comedian starts, you can get the gist.

The place opens at 10 and you can stay all night if you want to. There are no bright lights and dancing girls, but it was an authentic night out that we would repeat in the future.

Also, when we went to the Montmartre museum the next day, there were old paintings of the interior of the Lapin Agile, and it really has not changed a bit.

Downside, drinks are hard to come by and they are 7E, so that is not like the days of the old artists.

Saying that, we will also check out a visit to the Moulin Rouge via last minute .com!

  2. Hi my wife and myself went to Paris last year and had a wonderful time,We booked everything with last

minute .com,flights ,transfers and excursions and it worked out very reasonable price wise and took the worry out of the holiday while we were there. We booked 2 excursions ,Versailles(well worth a visit) and Dinner at the  Eiffle Tower a boat trip down the river Seine and a show in Moulin Rouge(The show is Fantastic, something you will remember for a long time to come and doing it this way you get a huge discount nowhere near £100 ).We were on a budget but found doing it all this way we could afford it.What ever you decide i am sure you will have a great time.

  3. They are absolutely not worth it. Save your money.

They are really nothing more than typical Las Vegas style shows with bare breasted girls in fancy costumes.

If you want something very Parisian then head over to Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galand in the 5th and go to the Caberet in the basement. It doesn't get going until fairly late, around 10 or 11 and stays open all night.

There's also great jazz at dozens of places from the Club Lionel Hampton to the legendary Slow Club and the Chat qui peche.

You might also enjoy having dinner at Nos Ancetres les Gaulois (http://www.nosancetreslesgaulois.com/FR/... where the servers are dressed as Celtic warriors and troubadors wander about. The place has an all you can eat and all you can drink menu for 39 euros. Great fun although a bit rowdy (in an amusing way) at times.

For a bit of history head over to Harry's New York Bar (http://www.harrys-bar.fr/) and head for the piano bar in the basement. Smooth, elegant music in classic surroundings where everyone from George Gershwin to F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway hung out. Gershwin composed the music for "American in Paris" here on the very piano that you'll be listening to. This is the place where the Bloody Mary and the Sidecar were invented.

  4. I have been threatening a moulin rouge show each time I visit Paris. Yes it is costly but I reckon it's one of those experiences not to be passed on!!
