I would like to go to Nice sometime during the week we are in Paris. How much would it cost to get there? Should I fly or drive? How long would it take? What is there to do in Nice?

  1. As Millie, I am fan of trains in France, but for Nice, I would recommend the plane, flights are very frequent from both paris airports and you can find tickets at low prices (www.easyjet.com). It takes about 1h15.

I liked Nice, but just to enjoy the nice weather, walk on the 'Promenade des Anglais' at the seashore downtown, seeing the nice hotels, taking a picture of the red steps of the film festival congress center. Two-three days will be enough, and Nice is as expensive as Paris for hotels.

    Enjoy your stay there !

  2. I tend to prefer trains over planes within France because they are fast, always leave on time and you leave and arrive directly in city centers.

But Nice is very far, almost 600 miles away. By train it's a 6-hour trip for as low as 33 € O/W if you book online, a little more if you pay at the station or in a SNCF agency:

Driving there is a 10-hour trip minimum including 3 rest/meal breaks so you'll be exhausted by the time you arrive and it costs 150 € for gas and tolls alone (based on a small car) + the cost of a car rental (75€/day for a compact standard car). Then you'll be stuck with the problem of driving and parking in the city.

Flying is the fastest and most expensive way of getting there. The flight is 1hr20 but from downtown Paris to downtown Nice it's probably 3hrs to 3hrs30 + the hassle of going through security and transfers. Prices vary greatly based on when and where you book, you can do a little research online.

As for what to do and see in Nice, here is their tourist office website: http://www.nicetourisme.com/GB/som.html

I'm not crazy about Nice personally and find other parts of the Riviera far more charming but there are some nice sites to visit in the city and you can hop on a local train to visit other coastal villages. Have a nice stay in France!
