Question:

Paris with my mom!?

So, my mom decided to take me to Paris with her during Spring Break. We're going for one week and she asked me what I would like to do.

I'm 17, I love travel, and this will be my third time out of the country (I've been to Canada, Spain and Portugal). I know I'd like to go shopping and visit some art museums.

IMPORTANT: I don't like to be touristy like, tour buses etc.

Basically, what I'm asking is do you know anything that I should do while I'm there?

  1. go see chenenceau (not really in paris but it's still cool), visit the louvre (and the glass pyramid outside it), notre dame, eiffel tower of course, l'arc de triomphe, and walk on the champs elysees (supposedly where all the famous french people go, i'm not sure)

  2. You could try Parc Asterix. It's a traditional theme park based around the classic French cartoon character "Asterix" - France's counterpart to Disneyland. This excellent theme park features fun comic characters in a Roman/Viking/Druid theme. It's about 35km north of Paris.

  3. Le marché aux puces de Saint-Ouen- Go Flea-marketing

Museums in Paris are like no other!  Louvre, Rodin and so many more.

    The churches are great!

    The catacombs are wierd.

    The gardens are relaxing.--du Luxumburg

A meal in the Eiffel tower is worth it---Make reservations now!

Okay one Super touriesty thing that would be interesting the first night is the boat ride.  It gives you an understanding of the city.  Again SUPER TOURIST!

  4. I loved the gardens, like someone mentioned earlier.

My very favorite place in Paris is Le Sacre Coeur. You have to climb (or be lazy and take a cab) up to Montmartre. When I was there it was mostly artists and locals. Fantastic place. After you climb up the stairs, you are standing in front of a really beautiful white marble church. When you turn around, you can see the whole city. There are mimes and artists all around.

The other place that is historically important but not on the tourist track is Le Cathedrale De Saint Denis. It houses all of the bodies of the former kings and queens of France. It's very cool, but I recall it wasn't in the best of areas.

  5. you should find someone that lives there so they would kno places you can go and enjoy

  6. Well: there is shopping at Opera stop on the Metro.  You have Au Printempts, Galleries Layfette as your "mall" with a beautiful, domed, stained glass ceiling in the restaurant where you can eat lunch (which moms and daughter always like to do!), more shopping at Fouquets and Hediard - chocolates, jams, jellies, nuts, coffees, gifts at La Madeline Metro stop 8; The Louvre - Mona Lisa, Napoleon's apartments, Louis 14th furniture, Venus de Milo.  Versailles (20 minutes away and the Petit Trinon where Marie Antoinette had her separate home-- worth the day trip!!.  Can take an RER train there).   Designer shopping outlets outside of Paris at Val d'Europe stop (RER A train take toward Euro Disney and is next to last stop).  Fabulous designer finds!!!

Lunch or dinner at Eiffel Tower (Jules Verne restaurant) where the views are breathtaking!!!; walking around town, just taking in the architecture.  Pont Neuf - famous bridge (one of 22) in the city that have gorgeous lanterns at each end.  Champs Elysee - walking, sitting at a cafe, shopping in the shops, seeing the ferris wheel on one end, the Arc de Triomphe on the other.  Invalides - the tomb of Napoleon - breathtaking rotunda.  Plenty to see, do.  You will run out of time before you run out of things to do!

  7. I like Musee d'Orsay and Musee Rodin for the art.  Make sure you spend time in Jardin du Luxembourg and walk through the Palais Royal.  There are lots of little shops everywhere.  A few interesting areas are Boulevard St. Germain, rue Mouffetard in the Latin Quarter, the Marais, and all around Chatelet.  I wouldn't shop at the Carrousel du Louvre (underground shopping mall under the Louvre museum) -- it's too touristy.
