Park Joo Bong wants two semi-final berths at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton News
Chief coach of Japan, Park Joo Bong, wants to have at least two semi-final berths at the 2011 World Championships, starting from today, August 8, in London, England.
Japan is making rapid progress at international level in the arena of badminton, as numerous Japanese shuttlers in all categories of the game are making their presence felt by playing superb badminton in worldwide events.
Park Joo wants to repeat the performance of the 2007 edition of the World Championships, where two Japanese pairs penetrated into the semi-final stages of the event. He is optimistic that this time also, Japanese shuttlers will possibly achieve the target
set by their coach.
While talking about the team’s performance in the last four editions of the event, Park Joo said, “We have not been hitting the mark for the last four years and it will be good if we can repeat what we achieved in 2007. That was Japan’s best outing in many
years.”
The coach admitted China’s superiority in the sport and also expressed that female shuttlers of Japan will enter into the semi-finals of the Women’s Doubles category. Park Joo added, “China is still the favourite in this event. But we hope our girls can
make at least the semi-finals.”
At the 1977 World Championships, Japan clinched their first and only title when Emiko Ueno and Etsuko Toganoo grabbed the Women’s Singles crown. After that win, no other Japanese shuttler has been able to repeat history until now.
Talking about Sho Sasaki, the Men’s Singles shuttler from Japan, Park Joo said that the shuttler is in tremendous form as he has recently clinched the title in the US Open Grand Prix Gold. Sasaki also crushed Lin Dan of China in the second round of the 2011
Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.
While speaking about the training camp attended by players, Park Joo said, “We had a 10-day centralised camp and Sasaki has shown good progress. We are happy with his form and he is quite on par with Kenichi Tago.”
The Japanese team is looking determined to put up a good show and live up to the expectations of their coach. With the likes of some good shuttlers, the squad certainly has the ability to beat any opponent by playing to their full potential.
