Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that injured midfielder Scott Parker may return to the first team earlier than expected.
The hard working midfielder looks set to hand Tottenham a major boost after the manager revealed that the player may return to action earlier than was expected.
Parker picked up an Achilles injury during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034. The 32-year old was marked for a return in two months, but was ruled further out after undergoing surgery on his ankle.
The player has not featured at all for Spurs this season as he recovers from the surgery. Villas-Boas had set a Christmas return for the player, who has been a major loss for the team so far.
Tottenham have lacked the midfielder’s immense work rate and defensive ability in the middle of the park, and have had to rely on the likes of Sandro and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-Huddlestone-c35227 to fill the void in his absence.
Parker joined Tottenham last season from West Ham United, and became one of their most important players. He immediately settled into the fluid and quick passing game that Tottenham had started to play under former manager Harry Redknapp, and became the
engine that drove the team.
He was also influential in Tottenham’s 11-game unbeaten run, and perhaps would’ve been the major factor behind Tottenham’s Champions League qualification had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 not won the European title. The midfielder’s solid performances earned him a regular spot
in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national team and led to many plaudits.
The Tottenham boss had to make do without the combative midfielder since he was appointed as head manager, but is finding comfort in the fact that he may return earlier than expected. Speaking to reporters, the Portuguese tactician said:
“There has been a slight improvement. We have pushed him in exercise and running. We have time and are allowing the player to feel 100 per cent. Hopefully we will have him fit in a few weeks.”
Tottenham meanwhile look to recover from their Capital One Cup exit against Norwich by preparing for this weekend’s game against Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane.
