Question:

Parking Light Almost Always On

I have 2002 Toyota Corolla having issues with the parking/emergency brake light. Sometimes the light will go off when I release the brake and other times it will not. I know what riding the brake feels like and that isn't what's goping on. Sometimes when I am driving the light will come on. Re-engaging the brake and releasing it sometimes will work. Sometimes it will not.

What if anything should I worry about? What if anything can I do without having to paying someone to look at it?

  1. From previous experience, when the e-brake is released, the cable system under the car has some slack to it.  Just get under the car and check to see that this slack is evident.  If so, I would say the problem exists in the electrical portion of the e-brake i.e. a switch or stuck mechanical part which triggers the light.  If you drive with the e-brake on, you will smell it JUST LIKE MY WIFE DID. >8-(
