hey there.....i drive a chevy silverado, and live in a hilly area. i always use parking beak at an incline or decline, but i've noticed some people (usually women) leave their parking break on even on flat ground...i always thought this odd, but recently one of my male friends told me that i should start doing it too, or my transmition will c**p out.....any truth to this

  1. meh... i doubt it.  perhaps on an incline, but not so much on level ground.  it is, however, a good idea to set your parking brake every time you park (i should practice what i preach)... safety first!

  2. Not only is it good for your transmission to use the parking brake, it's legally required in many states, if not all. If your car is on hill or just on level ground, your parking brake should always be used when parking...that's why it's called the "parking brake".

  3. i rebuild trannys for ford and there is no way that you will ruin your tranny by not using your parking brake on flat ground, as far as using your parking brake on the hill, that's not a bad idea but you sure wont hurt the tranny if you don't use your parking brake on flat ground

  4. nope ive never used a parking brake unless i was on a hill and then  only sometimes .. will have little to do with transmission

  5. the park position on an auto trans is just a bunch of splines on the trans shaft that you slide a dog-leg into.  If you get bumped hard the shifter can get ruined. Better to use the P.B.
