Question:

Parking for VTA riders near Fremont BART?

Are there any pay/free parking near Fremont BART for VTA or bus riders? I've just moved here and have found it impossible to park at or near Fremont BART to take the VTA bus from there. The BART parking ticket machines are INSIDE the gates and not accessible for bus riders even though I am more than willing to pay. This morning I parked at the nearby shopping mall and am risking getting towed :( Help is appreciated!!

  1. That Fremont BART parking lot is completely crazy.  Since its at the end of the line, many people from South Bay commute here and the parking lot gets quite full by 7:30/8:00.  After 8:30, its nearly impossible and by 9:00 there is no street neighborhood parking either for half a mile surrounding the station.  BART seriously needs to build a parking structure here but with funds tight, this is going to be like this for a very long while.

Luckily you are just taking the VTA bus, because there are 2 park and ride lots in Fremont that have VTA access away from the station.  Check out http://rideshare.511.org/  It is SF Bay Area's official traffic, transit, and carpool website.

    1.  I-680 and Mission Blvd.  Has 127 parking spaces.  It is located on the northbound side of 680.  To get to the VTA bus, you have to walk under the overpass and cross the street to the other side before they get on the onramp of southbound 680.

NOTE:  When you are getting off the VTA bus, this is the 1st stop once the bus exits the freeway.  Make sure you pull the bell or else this stop is skipped and the next stop is quite a walk back.

    2.  Mission Blvd and Callery Ct.  Has 27 parking spaces.  There is even a parking lot diagram too!  http://rideshare.511.org/511maps/lot_dia...  Once again, VTA buses going southbound are on the opposite side of the street.

These 2 Park and Ride lots are accessible to all VTA buses that come to Fremont BART.  (120, 140, 180, 181)

This information is up to date as of 7/7/08.  Happy commuting!
