is it legal to park overnight at a public parking lot. i.e. parking lot of a supermarket? the parking is free.

  1. Where I live, you're not allowed to park on any street, public parking lot, and apartment visitor parking after 2 AM.  Sometimes you get a $40 fine and sometimes you don't.  depends on which route the parking enforcement officer is going to do his/her duty. Most of the time, you would not get a ticket unless someone(a rat) calls the city.  I sometimes park my car overnight at mall parking lot .  so far no ticket  YET.  things may be different for smaller towns.


  2. Keep an eye on the signs and be prepared for towing and storage costs.

  3. depends just like any other large citiy

    supermarket parking lots...some will tow you as its private property overnight and their signs are clear to state only a certain limit of time while shopping .Some road parking is free other s you must either be for or if not signs will tell you if you can or can not park and also  if you must pay the meter ...yes just like the states
