Parliamentary Committee wants PCB Chairman Axed
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s dismal performance in the ongoing test series in England has enticed the Chairman of a parliamentary committee on sports head Iqbal Mohammad Ali. The parliamentarian has recommended the removal of the current administration of Pakistan Cricket Board, led by Ijaz Butt.
Mr. Ali has written a letter to the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, who is the patron in chief of the cricket board, and asked him to remove the current administration. Or the head of the body former test cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, whom Iqbal claims, is the man behind the continuing decline of the game in the country.
Iqbal Mohammad Ali, is the Chairman of National Assembly’s standing committee on sports. The National Assembly is the lower house in Pakistan’s parliament.
"The chairman and his close aides have shoddily let down your confidence in them by making a mockery of management ethics at the board", claimed Ali. Adding that, the chaos in national cricket was due to the inefficiency and stubbornness of the aging Chairman.
"It is therefore recommended that a very dynamic and energetic administrator be made the chairman of the board so that the affairs of cricket in Pakistan are run professionally. (The) incompetence of Mr. Ijaz Butt has already brought enough shame for our country at international level".
Many former players were invited to join the PCB by Ijaz yet most of them parted ways as they found the going tough at the governing body’s office. They all agreed that they had to call it a day "due to egocentric and autocratic attitude of Mr. Ijaz Butt".
There has been a spate of changes in the management of the team with the captaincy changing hands amongst Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and Salman Butt and Ali labeled this as a "comedy of errors".
There have been allegations of nepotism against Butt, with the current team manager Yawar Saeed regarded as one of his oldest associates and friends.
On the other hand some of his relatives, Shireen Javed and Financial advisor Mr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-c78451 also enjoying perks and privileges as they are amongst the top ranked officials in the PCB.
Ali pleaded that in such a scenario, it was impossible for the game to improve in the country as it continues to suffer irreparable damage ever since Butt took over the reins.
He was appointed as the head of the Board in October 2008 and Ali claims that the performance of the team has been at its lowest ebb in the period. Reducing the 1992 fifty over World Cup champions to a standard that would suit a minnow of the game.
The team has been performing abysmally in England with batting remaining their biggest worry as the visitors crashed to their two lowest totals in back-to-back innings. They perished for 80 at Trent Bridge Nottingham in the second innings of the first test followed by a 72-run capitulation in the first innings of the second test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
In the last two years the standing committees of both upper and lower houses have been accusing the PCB of mismanagement. Yet all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. But the expectations are that some concrete actions are due especially in the aftermath of the debacle in England and the inconsistent selection policies that have dogged the national team.
Most of the fans in cricket crazy Pakistan hope that the government takes some concrete action and resurrect the fledgling state of cricket in the country.
