Parma’s Franco Colomba urges officials to retain Sebastian Giovinco and Amauri – Serie A news
Parma F.C. coach, Franco Colomba, has urged the club officials to retain the striking duo of Sebastian Giovinco and Amauri for the upcoming 2011/12 season. The duo has been at their very best off late and that has reignited the manager’s interest in both the striker and the attacking midfielder.
The 24-year-old Giovinco was loaned out to the Gialloblu in 2010 from Juventus. Since then, the winger has made 27 Serie A appearances and has bagged six goals so far, including the winner over his parent club in the most recent league game. The match was held on Sunday, May 15. Juventus’ loss meant that the Girlfriend of Italy are no longer in contention for next year’s UEFA Champions League spot.
Amauri, on the other hand, joined the Yellow and Blues during the January transfer window and has been in supreme touch ever since. From a total of his 10 Serie A appearances, the striker has five goals under his belt so far.
Coach Colomba has tried to press the club officials to strike a deal with Juventus in order to keep the duo with the outfit. The Gialloblu also stand with an option of grabbing half of Giovinco’s rights from the midfielder’s parent club on a co-ownership deal.
The club’s coach hailed the performance of both his players and expressed desired to see them again in Parma colours at the start of the 2011/12 campaign.
Colomba added, “Giovinco has great qualities, but he still has a lot of work to do. The club will buy half of his rights though. Amauri? He’s a mature player. He’d be very useful for us next season and I really do hope that he remains.”
The former Verona tactician was pleased to see his team going clear of the drop zone and wished to end the current season on a high.
Parma are currently 12th in the League table with 45 points and will wrap up their campaign against Colomba’s former team, Cagliari, on Sunday, May 22. A victory there could enable the Gialloblu to end the season in the top half of the table, provided the other results also go in their favour.
