Parrotlet with broken hip? Anyone experienced?

My parrotlet's leg is still pink in color, so still has good circulation in the leg and foot. He is eating and drinking well since the incident last night and wants to be held. He doesnt seem to be too uncomfortable until he tries to walk of course.

I worked for a vet tech for many years, but admit I never delt with birds much, and moved away to a different job so I'm kind of lost here.

The parrotlet is about 11wks old with an apparent broken hip. he will also not curl his toes, but as i said has good circulation. I have put him in a box with his toys, food and water (but he wants to be cradled in my hand most of the time).

I understand not a lot can be done for this, but has anyone else been through this? did you try to set it? If so how did you do it?

Money is a big issue right now, so pins etc isn't an option.

  1. take him to a vet fast

  2. Your parrotlet really needs to be seen by a vet.  Avian bones heal very quickly and if there is a break or dislocation that isn't properly treated and set, your bird may not heal properly and be forever crippled and arthritic.  He's also likely in considerable pain which can be addressed by an avian vet.  PLEASE take him in for treatment.  (I don't think it's likely your vet will try to place a pin in a bird the size of a parrotlet.)
