Part 1: English Premier League players looking to bounce back
When the last season of the English Premier League is looked upon, people remember names such as, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Cesc Fabregas, Thomas Vermaelen and Wayne Rooney. On the other hand though, there are players who had a very disappointing season, specially if compared to the giants mentioned above.
The reasons for their poor seasons range from poor form to suffering from injuries along the way. They would thus be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of last season and would want to start over. Here is a look at some of the players who could potentially be looking to, and most probably would, bounce back this season.
Ben Foster was once touted to be the shining light amongst the future England goal keepers. He was loaned to Watford by Manchester United in 2005, where he impressed almost every one and won the hearts of all the Watford fans. The then manager of the Hornets was reported to have said, "He is a better goalkeeper than Edwin Van Der Sar. He is going to be the best goalkeeper in the world."
While such a comparison was flattering, Foster knew he had a lot to do in order to live up to those expectations. Watford were promoted that season thanks to the terrific performances by Foster. The following season he chose to return to the team. He won the player of the year award at the club and the praise of critics along the way.
Foster managed to have brief spells at Old Trafford along the way as well. The most notable was in the League Cup final where he helped United beat Tottenham on penalties, by a score of four to one. He was famously noted to have prepared for that shoot out by watching the Tottenham players take penalties on his iPod.
However Foster has since fallen from grace. He hasn’t done much over the last two years. He has been the second choice keeper at Old Trafford. Foster will however be spending the coming season at Birmingham. If he manages to impress there then he could bounce back and be on the verge of making the English national team. He will also be looking to make an impact on the Premier League to remind everyone of just what he is capable of.
James Beattie has had a tough time at the Britania Stadium lately. The stoke City forward who has previously played for the English national team, has been nothing short of disappointed at Stoke City. He was forced to sit on the benches while players who were less capable then him were given the opportunity to play in the Stoke City line up. Beattie will however be looking to change all of that once the new season starts. Beattie is still just as capable as he used to be. He is a powerful forward with the ability to win countless aerial challenges. He is also more than happy with holding the ball up front so that the rest of the team can catch up.
Beattie will be relishing the opportunity to take the field once again this coming season so he could show everyone just what he can do. A lot of teams have been showing interest in the player which means that, he will be looking to impress. It wouldn’t matter if he’s a stoke player or if he’s playing for another team. Experts strongly believe that this coming season will be the season in which Beattie finally bounces back and proves to everyone why he was once chosen to play as an England international.
