Goal Keeper
The goal keeper that was selected to keep for the greatest Premier League team of all time is Manchester United’s greatest keeper of all time, Peter Schmeichel. The keeper came to Old Trafford as a relative unkown, however he didn’t take long to rise to fame.
Schmeichel won the Premier League title five times with United and the FA Cup thrice. He also won the Charity shield on four occasions and the Champions League in his last season with the club.
Schmeichel’s last season with the team was quite possibly his best, he was part of the United team that won the Champions League treble. Schmeichel then called an end to his United career following the conclusion of that season.
Defence
In the defence of the team, the players who have been voted to fill in as the back four are, Gary Neville, Tony Adams, John Terry and Patrice Evra.
Two of the four defenders on the list are from Manchester United, while one is from Arsenal and the other from Chelsea.
Gary Neville has been a lifelong United player, the player has dedicated his life to the club and then some. Neville was even captain of the United team in recent history but was removed from that post. However what set Neville apart from the rest was not his playing ability, but his dedication and loyalty to the club. Neville is a player who thinks of his club as his home and doesn’t tolerate anything that is said or done against his home. It is this loyalty that has made him the fans favourite player to play in the right back position.
In the centre of the defence there is Chelsea captain, John Terry and former Arsenal captain Tony Adams. Both players are quite similar in their approach to the game and their ability. Both of them have captained their sides and led by example, while being consistent. They are both hard hitting tacklers of the ball and have great leadership qualities. However they also tend to score for their teams. Adams used to go upfront and play as a third striker from time to time, which added a whole new dimension to his game, where as Terry tends to get forward on numerous occasions and has managed to score his fair share of goals over the years.
The final spot of left back is filled by another Manchester United player, Patrice Evra. Evra has been one of the best left backs to ever play the beautiful game of football and according to numerous fans, he is the best left back to ever play as left back in the Premier League.
Evra, is pacy, has good tackling ability and a very good mind for the game. He also tends to read the game with ease and break up countless plays. His ability to break up the play and then join the counter attack is what really makes him a special player.
