Part 1: Madrid Legend Zinedine Zidane thinks Jose Mourinho’s men can defeat Barcelona
If there was one player in recent French history who made a big name in football, then it is definitely the 2006 FIFA World Cup golden ball award winner, Zinedine Zidane. We can definitely not forget about the moments that he provided the fans with during the time that he got on the pitch. Zidane is definitely a legend in the eyes of many and even a midfield god for a few.
Recently he was called up in the French squad’s training camp when they were preparing for the Euro 2012’s qualifying matches. Zidane was called just to boost confidence into the young players as they lost it during the FIFA World Cup 2010.
The French supporters definitely would not be able to forget how the FIFA World Cup 2010 ended for their team. The French team, who were actually the runner ups of the FIFA World Cup 2006, were paired up with teams like Uruguay, Mexico and the host nation Bafana Bafana. The fans expected the French team to “at least” make a move to the next round of the tournament but they simply failed to do so. The French started their world cup campaign by facing the South American underdogs, Uruguay.
The Uruguayan team wanted to impress the world but both the teams failed to score and Zidane was seen sitting on the stands as he came to watch the team that he helped reach the final of the last FIFA World Cup and he did it all singlehandedly. Their second opponents were Mexico and it was expected that the French team was going to win the match but it was totally the opposite.
The Mexican team totally destroyed the French dreams of reaching the next round as the match ended 2-0 for the Mexicans; a convincing win for the South Americans. The third match was against the host nation South Africa but by that time it was simply seen that the French squad was experiencing internal problems and the French striker Anelka had already packed his bags and gone home. The French team then went out of the FIFA World Cup 2010 after a disappointing run in the group stages, as they also suffered a loss against South Africa.
Zidane is seen as a legend and he actually was because he did what many players dream of doing; holding the midfield position like a rock and making moves for his strikers so that they can score goals. Not only was he able to give assists to the French team, he also managed to score goals even though he was a midfielder. With players like Ribbery and Henry included in the French team squad, he totally showed the world that a single man can help a team reach the finals of the FIFA World Cup. However, it was Zidane who walked out after head-butting the Italian defender Materazzi and totally shattered the French team’s dreams of winning the gold.
The French midfielder used to play in the heart of Real Madrid’s team as well, and was a midfielder of the Los Blancos. The team was then called the Galacticos and there was no other club team in the world that was nearly as close to the might of their team. The former Real Madrid man was recently seen interviewing the press as he told them that he had faith in the new Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho.
Real Madrid last year, even though they bought a lot of “world class” players like the Brazilian number 10 Kaka and the Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo, but they were still no match for the mighty Catalan giants, Barcelona. They lost both the matches in the La Liga and were not able to win the any trophy in the previous season.
This time round, Zidane said that Jose Mourinho and the new squad can definitely do wonders and they can easily win from Barcelona if they try their best. He said that he agrees to the fact that Barcelona are currently playing at their best but Real Madrid have a lot of players this year round and if they try, they can secure a win against the Catalan Giants.
