Part 1: Players that Manchester United should sign
Whenever the transfer window is in full bloom, numerous clubs get linked to numerous players for a variety of reasons. The reasons for the players being linked to the a plethora of clubs come about after performances at the World Cup, fantastic seasons in yesteryears or due to the players’ expiring contracts.
Things are no different with Manchester United. Even though United haven’t always been the most active in the transfer window, they have over the past almost always been linked with numerous players. That trend seems to be carrying on this summer as well. Here is a look at some of the players who are rumoured to make their way to Old Trafford before the start of the new season.
Luis Suarez
Luis Suarez is the Uruguayan born player who currently plays for Ajax. Suarez was in phenomenal form last season with Ajax. He was the team’s main goal threat and top scorer. The Dutch Eredivise defenders and goal keepers almost always had nightmares before facing the player. Suarez managed to score over forty goals last season, which is quite an astonishing feat.
Suarez was one of the primary candidates for the Uruguayan team that participated in the World Cup in South Africa. Suarez was one of the best strikers seen at the World Cup and formed a very lethal partnership with Diego Forlan. Although Suarez didn’t manage to score as many goals as Forlan, he was a very crucial member of the team. He was constantly a threat down the flanks and held the ball up brilliantly. He also single handily managed to help the team progress on two occasions, once with his fantastic last minute goal against Korea and the second time when he blatantly handled the ball to deny Ghana a goal. Although the handball may seem like the wrong thing to do, it also shows the players dedication and commitment and willingness to give it his all for the team.
Manchester United is in desperate need for another world class striker, to help partner Wayne Rooney up front. Dimitar Berbatov was brought into help the striker but he hasn’t been able to provide the help that the player needed. They managed to bring in Javier Hernandez in, however the player is still quite inexperienced in the Premier League and in Europe. With someone like Suarez joining the team, the team and Rooney would both benefit from the deal. The deal might seem perfect on paper, but United might not be willing to pay the transfer fee that Ajax would demand for the player.
There is a cheaper alternative for the team however.
Keisuke Honda
Keisuke Honda was quite easily Japan’s World Cup, superhero. The player was tremendous every time he played for his national side. He was also one of the only players to score of the dead ball in the World Cup hence proving his worth from set pieces.
Honda also possesses the ability to play equally as good in the midfield as he does up front. He could possibly be a future replacement for the likes of Paul Scholes in the United midfield. Teams like AC Milan and Arsenal have already realised the players’ potential and have been pondering a possible move for the player. However, despite that fact, if Manchester United were to make a bid for the player, he would quite possible decide to move to Old Trafford instead. The player is currently employed by CSKA Moscow and the team have admitted that they are willing to listen to offers for the player. United will however have to act fast if they hope to land their man before the close of the transfer window.
