Part 1 - Special Feature: Quotes of the week
This week’s quotes sections starts off with a colourful one from Roy Hodgson. The Liverpool manager finally managed to secure a win for Liverpool F.C on the previous weekend at Anfield as the Reds marched to a 2-1 victory over Blackburn
Rovers. Hodgson was apparently quite bullish in his press conference after the match as he had a swing at the media.
The former Fulham manager was not shying away from voicing his thoughts in any manner whatsoever as he said that, “there are websites that frankly, write the most ridiculous of things”. Maybe his comments do hold some weight, perhaps even
more weight than his Liverpool squad at the moment. Roy didn’t end it there; he went onto elaborate on Liverpool’s new owners.
In a rant which was aimed at supposedly educating the audience of his press conference the veteran Englishman stated, "I'm not certain the people here (NESV) have that type of mindset, they are top sportspeople. They took over the Boston
Red Sox, who weren't doing very well, and turned them into a champion team". One can’t blame Roy for being well informed about his new bosses but he would do well to remember that New England Sports Venture sacked the Red Sox manager within a month of their
takeover of the franchise.
Uncle Hodgson might be preparing for a jobless future as well as the Merseyside giants are currently 18th in the English Premier League table and face a tough test away at Bolton on the coming weekend. If Hodgson’s
extravagant display of boldness wasn’t tasteful enough then Wayne Rooney sure did light up Manchester with his behaviour over the past two weeks.
After creating a mess for himself as far as his future at Manchester United was concerned, Wayne tried to sidestep criticism as he said, “I am sure the fans have been upset over the last few days with everything they have heard in the
media". Not the best of footwork with that statement, something that has always been lacking in the English strikers game.
John Terry was quite supportive of Wayne’s behaviour apparently. His support didn’t come as a surprise to anyone considering that Terry himself is no expert-moral-code-setter of his generation either. The Chelsea defender stated, "Whatever
he gets, he deserves every single penny. Wayne is probably the best young player in the world". No comments on this one as John has once again out did himself in the media yet again.
Alternatively, Sir Alex Ferguson was much more sensible as far as the whole Wayne Rooney “Oh-I-am-leaving-but-now-I-am-staying” saga was concerned. The experienced Manchester United manager said that “Sometimes, when you're in a club,
it can be hard to realize just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand. What's happened in the last couple of days is a lesson to everyone of just how big Manchester United is. You look at Wayne's record
since he's been here, he's won three titles, the European Cup, three League Cups and the Club World Cup This is a big day for Manchester United and a big message to all of our players and all of our fans that we're the biggest club in the world and we should
never forget that"
That wasn’t the end of his interview as Ferguson went onto open fire on his traditional enemy “the agent”. The ex-Aberdeen manager said, "Agents live in their pockets nowadays and for some reason they have an influence on the players which
I think is a big change in the game as far as I'm concerned". Maybe, a cheeky dig at Wayne Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford there by Ferguson?
