Part 1 Special Feature: What’s next for Newcastle United?
Newcastle United might not have spent big in any shape or form in the January transfer window but one thing that they did do was to shoot themselves in the foot, in both public relations sector as well as their on the field matters.
At first, Newcastle rejected a thirty million pound bid for Andy Carroll but Liverpool’s unwavering determination saw the Merseyside giants make a thirty five million pound bid for the Englishman.
This time contradictions emerge in the reports that have come to the fore front of the British press. Some reports suggest that Newcastle United rejected this bid as well but others blame Andy Carroll for turning into a modern
day “Judas” as the Geordie boy submitted a transfer request to secure a move to Liverpool.
However, Carroll himself has revealed that he was literally pushed out the door at the Saint James’s Park stadium. Newcastle’s former number 9 showcased text messages to his friend that narrated the whole situation which unfolded
on mad Monday i.e. 31st of January, 2011.
Text messages made it clear that Newcastle United didn’t want to become the “bad guy” in the whole Andy Carroll transfer saga therefore they put out the story that Carroll had pushed the move through with a transfer request.
Fans have turned on Carroll but Newcastle United are left in hot water as well. Regardless of what unfolded or whether Carroll is the man who turned his back on the Magpies or whether Newcastle United finally submitted to the financial
power of Liverpool, Andy is now a Liverpool player.
Most importantly, Newcastle United are now without their star striker and their foolish decision to part ways with the youngster has left them in a situation which can be termed as between “a rock and a hard place”.
In his time at Newcastle United, in the 2010-2011 English Premier League, Carroll netted 11 goals in 19 appearances in the English Premier League. In total, Newcastle United have scored 36 goals in the English Premier League, thus,
approximately around one-third of the Magpies’ goals have been scored by Carroll.
Not only that, Carroll’s goals have come at important stages of Newcastle’s English Premier League survival campaign. It was indeed the strikers long ranged drive that gave Newcastle United a memorable win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Saint
James’ Park in the 2010 calendar year.
Moreover, Newcastle United pressed the panic button with Carroll’s sale. The fact that the move went through in the late hours of 31st of January, 2011 meant that Newcastle were fully aware that they will not have enough
time to find a replacement for their English starlet.
Despite being fully aware of the consequences of their decision, Newcastle United adopted the belief that the 35 million pound fee for Andy Carroll is just too good to turn down. So now a very simple question faces Alan Pardew
at Newcastle United, who will score the goals for the Tyneside club?
Carroll’s departure has come as a blessing in disguise for Leon Best, Shola Ameobi, Nile http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and Peter Lovenkrands. Shola Ameobi does not look like the player that can step up to fill Carroll’s shoes, in his 226 appearances
for Newcastle United; Ameobi has scored only 46 goals.
Shola Ameobi’s goal scoring endeavours pale in comparison to Carroll who netted 11 goals in the current Premier League season alone. In a single Premier League season, Carroll has scored approximately one-fourth of the total goals
that Ameobi has scored in his entire career.
