Part 10: Top 12 Strikers at the moment
3. Didier Drogba:
Didier Drogba, at the moment is like Wine, he is getting better and better with age. The Ivory Coast player has made his name in the football world, in almost no time. The African elephant started his career from the African team, Levallois, but soon he
was taken in by the French team and he started to perform in Europe.
He was always a powerful player as he showed the World what the African soil is made of. He showed how speed, power and heading abilities can come in handy for the strikers in scoring goals. He wasn’t a “very” outstanding performer when he started his senior
career in the French league, but as he grew up he matured and became better than many other strikers in the world.
The African striker was able to make 64 appearances for the French club, Le Mans that he first joined and during his time in the French team he was able to score 12 goals. He was not a regular player for the club as he was too young compared all the experienced
players and Didier Drogba was mostly seen on the bench.
His talent was well recognized by other teams and they saw him as a phenomenal talent. Guingamp were the ones who were able to bag the African striker and called him up for only 5 million Euros. Didier Drogba definitely proved to be more than that price
and was able to bag himself 20 goals in 45 games that he played with that team. He only lasted there for a single season as the French League winners, Marseille called him up and he was to join another French side.
With Marseille, he didn’t prove to be too much of a success but it was seen that the player was involved in almost every move that the team used to make. Later, towards the end of the only season that he played for the French team, Didier Drogba was there
to help the team by scoring some vital goals. He managed to bag himself 19 goals in only 25 starts that he earned by performing fabulously for his team.
Soon, he got called up at Chelsea, as Jose Mourinho was the one who took charge of the English club. Jose Mourinho back then was simply a sensation as he won the Champions League with the Portuguese side, Porto.
With Mourinho as the manager of the English club, Chelsea, Drogba’s success was simply inevitable. However, the striker was too used to of the French League. He took time to settle into the club and when he did, there was nothing that could stop him.
Even though Chelsea were unable to win the Champions League with Mourinho around, Didier Drogba helped the team win two English Premier Leagues in a row. However, their failure in the Champions League wasn’t too bad as they managed to reach the final with
their local rivals, Manchester United. The final match was won by United and it was John Terry who did not manage to hit the penalty on target and Chelsea were the ones who couldn’t take the title home that night.
Soon when Jose Mourinho left the club, it was Ancelotti who took charge and he utilized the African powerhouse very well. He won the English Premier League with Chelsea and it was Didier Drogba who was able to win the golden boot award in the English Premier
League even though Wayne Rooney was showing immense form in his club, Manchester United.
Winning the golden boot award, Didier Drogba suffered an injury in the training camp of his country, Ivory Coast. Ivory Coast, however, managed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2010 but unluckily they were paired up in the toughest group along with teams
like Brazil and Portugal.
Despite a shoulder injury, Drogba wanted to play for his team and he kept on performing well as he still managed to bag himself a goal for his country to prove his worth to the world.
Didier Drogba is definitely a player to watch out for whenever he is on the pitch. Currently, he is performing for Chelsea and he is better than all the strikers in the English Premier League. Drogba is ranked number 3 in the “greatest strikers at the moment”.
