Part 11: Brazil vs. Argentina – Player Analysis
It was after five years that the Argentineans managed to defeat the Brazilian side and it was none other than Lionel Messi who stood between the two sides as a difference maker. Most of the fans were there to see Lionel Messi or Ronaldinho
scoring a goal and it was indeed the Barcelona number 10 who found the net.
Andres D’Allesandro got 20 minutes on the pitch as he got substituted for a “tired looking” Javier Pastore. He showed a few moments of good play and showed Sergio Batista that he could be the man who could serve him better than Javier
Pastore. However, the time that he had to “show off” was only twenty minutes which was definitely not enough for the Argentinean midfielder. He featured as an attacking midfielder but mostly spent his time in the centre of the pitch moving the ball around
with the team.
The Napoli man Ezequiel Lavezzi was the one who came on for Gonzalo Higuain right at the start of the first half and he simply showed the difference between the two sides. There is a reason why Diego Maradona sent out a comment that he
should be getting Maradona’s number 10 jersey in Napoli and he totally lived up to that comment.
The Argentinean striker was simply too fast for David Luiz and Thiago Silva both and he often found himself being outnumbered up front when he operated as a sole striker; however, whenever Lionel Messi joined him up in the attack, the
Argentinean side often themselves taking a shot on goal.
The Napoli striker simply showed why he is known to be their best striker and during the 92nd minute it was Lavezzi who back heeled the ball towards Lionel Messi who made an outstanding run from between the four
Brazilian players and found the net. Lavezzi was quick enough to be standing on the side of the crossbar just in case the ball is deflected but the Barcelona man made no mistake in finishing the ball into the net.
The match was simply phenomenal in terms of young talent and drama. The fans saw the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson sitting alongside the former French captain Zinedine Zidane. The Manchester United Manager was definitely
there to recruit a young player and it could’ve been from Brazil or the Argentinean “kid” Javier Pastore who looks to be on sale. However, he did not really tell the press who he is interested in.
The match ended in favour of Argentina and it was definitely a well deserved victory for Sergio Batista’s side who were simply outstanding during the second half and were all over the Brazilian defensive walls. The team got what it deserved
and so did Lionel Messi who managed to find the net for the Argentinean side something that he couldn’t accomplish during the FIFA World Cup 2010. The Argentinean maestro scored a phenomenal goal but can he become the World Player of the Year this time round?
Well that is something that time is going to tell as the Ballon d’ Or are going to take place in January. However, a great show was put up by both the teams, Brazil and Argentina in the deserts of Qatar.
