Part 2 - Best midfielders in the Spanish La Liga
Marcos Senna
Marcos Senna has finally started to show signs of the fact that his age has started to get the better of him. Although he is aging fast, he is still easily one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. He has and will continue to be the fulcrum to the Villa Real side that he plays for. He has been a consistent performer ever-since signing for the team and has always given his best performance.
The highlight of Senna’s career so far was when he participated in the European Championships with Spain. He was the pivot to the team throughout the matches and was voted the fan’s favourite player of the tournament. Most people believed that he would have contributed the same way to Spain’s World Cup campaign this summer, but age and injuries seemed to have gotten the better of the player, who was ruled out of making an appearance in the World Cup in South Africa.
His contributions to the Spanish side were so vital that their manager, Del Bosque decided to adopt the double pivot position. This was because there was no other midfielder on the Spanish side who was capable of doing what Senna could do, which is why two players were needed to fill in the void left by the player’s absence.
Mesut Ozil
The shining light of German football for the new generation is Mesut Ozil. Ozil has emerged as one of the biggest stars for the coming generations. He was one of the vital players in the German under-21 squad that went on to lift the under-21 World Cup trophy. It was the perfect form that was shown by the player that eventually earned him a call up to the German senior team.
He was also selected to be a part of the German squad that was heading to South Africa. His performances leading up to the tournament were so phenomenal that he earned a position in the Starting 11 for the German side. During the World Cup, Ozil showed everyone just what was so special about him. He electrified the field every time he played. He created passes out of nothing and created goal-scoring opportunities from a near impossible position for his team on numerous occasions.
His contributions were noted by the world along with the FIFA adjudicators, and he was shortlisted to be amongst the few players who were to compete for the golden ball. The golden ball is awarded to the best player of the tournament. That nomination in itself tells us just how good the player really is.
The player used to play for Werder Bremen but ever since the conclusion of the World Cup, there had been numerous transfer rumours linking the player away from the German side. Those rumours eventually came true with the player singing for Real Madrid earlier this week.
What he has done has brought a whole new dimension of play to the squad. He is going to initially be an immediate replacement for the injured Kaka but will eventually make his way to the first team on permanent basis. Ozil possesses quick feet; he is naturally left-footed but has no difficulty with playing equally as good with his right. He has a very vivid imagination, which allows him to create passes that other players wouldn’t even be able to see normally. He is without a doubt one of the best young midfielders in the world. Considering how well he performs for Real Madrid will determine whether or not he is going to be a German legend.
