Part 2: Experts Predictions for the weekend
The first round of the English Premier League came to an end on Monday night. Their were quite a few predictable and a whole lot of unpredictable events that occurred during the course of those opening three days of matches.
There were no surprises when Manchester United and Chelsea ran riot in their opening games. There were also no surprises when the likes of, Ryan Giggs, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba all made the score sheets in their opening games, in fact some might say it was what needed to be done.
However their were a few shocks in store. Blackpool's four nil thrashing of Wigan was something that came out of the blue. Also both the debutant's seeing red in the Arsenal, Liverpool clash was hardly something that could have been predicted.
Here is a look at what the expert's have predicted for week two of the matches that are set to take place in the English Premier League.
For years now there has been a debate that is based around the saying that, 'Chelsea are too old.' Over the course of the summer, countless armchair pundits and experts said that, the Chelsea squad had won it's final Premier league title for years to come.
Chelsea won it's last three games at the end of the previous season, by a score line of seventeen goals to nil. Chelsea have also managed to score over twenty goals in their last four home games. By no means is that a feat achievable by a squad that is apparently aging and too old to perform.
Chelsea did have a poor handful of results in their pre season matches, but that was because unlike most teams, Chelsea was playing it's younger less developed players in those games. The theory was finally given the last killing blow, when Chelsea scored six goals past West Brom in their opening game, on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
Chelsea seem to not be able to not score. They were only prevented from scoring once all of last season, when they broke the all time goals scored in the Premier League record by scoring a hundred and three goals.
Experts also pointed out how players like Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba had finally gotten past their peak and were now looking to hang their boots up. The player's were not very amused with the comments made regarding them and on the opening day they answered their critics and let their game do the talking.
Lampard continued to be the talismanic midfielder that he is. He continued to dictate the pace of the game and all the attacks that Chelsea launched he also scored another goal, which only adds to his tally of being the all time leading goal scoring midfielder.
Drogba who is now thrity two had a lot to offer as well. Firstly he displayed how a player can develop a killer free kick even near the end of their career and the talk that you develop your free kick early on is just nonsense. He also managed to score another hat trick with ease. The player has now managed to score thirty two goals in the last thirty two games he has played for Chelsea in the Premier League.
It is this surge of form and getting forward by the team, that has led experts to make a new prediction for this coming week of football for the team. Experts are now betting their houses on Chelsea scoring at least four goals past Wigan. They feel that if Blackpool can score four past them, then surely Chelsea will be able to match that record if not beat it If Chelsea do continue to perform at the same manner that the experts are now predicting it won't be long before they smash all the records that they set in the previous season.
