Part 2: Premier League Transfers
Aston Villa: One of the best upcoming teams in the Premier League that have been trying to break into the top four, for the last couple of seasons has been Aston Villa. They have always been threatening and have occasionally beaten the top four with ease.
Most people would say that the reason for the team’s success was due to their manager Martin O’Neil who built the team from the ground up and introduced the Premier League to some quality players like, Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and James Milner.
The manager was reputed for trying to play some good football and being one of the best managers in the Premier League. However one of the biggest casualties that took place at the club this summer was when the manager, resigned. It was unclear as to why the manager left the club just moments before the start of the new season. However later on the O’Neil was found to say that the reason for his departure was related to the transfers being conducted by the club.
The only player that the team bought into the side this summer was Stephen Ireland, who was a part of a swap deal which saw James Milner go the other way.
Whereas the players who were allowed to leave the team include, James Milner, Nicky Shorey, David Bevan, Jack Dyer, Marlon Harewood, Wilfred Bouma, Andy Marshall
It is easy to see why a manager would get frustrated with the officials at the club. The team allowed arguably their best player to leave over the summer and didn’t make any major signings of their own.
The managers decision to leave was later justified once the season started, as Villa went on to lose the very first game that they played in the absence of Milner. Who on the other hand a fantastic night out on his debut, in a game where Manchester City went on to beat Liverpool by three goals no nil.
Aston Villa have a lot of work to do if they hope to cope up with the loss of their manager and their play maker, James Milner.
Villa have a more than capable attacking line up with the likes of Agbonlahor, Young and Carew. However the team could use some strengthening down the middle of the pitch. The team does not have any capable midfielders who have proven themselves in the past.
The only notable player the team has who could play in the middle is Ireland. Ireland is a player who was recently brought into the side and it is safe to say that even though the player is gifted with talent, he would take a while getting used to the style of play at Villa and would hence not be performing at his best from the start of the season.
Villa could also use some strengthening at the back, they could try and get some replacements in. The most notable name in their back line is the of Luke Young who by no means is one of the best at what he does. Villa have a very short period of time to make some dramatic changes to the side, otherwise the team could be in line for one if their worst finishes in the team’s recent history.
