Part 2: Sevilla vs. Espanyol – Spanish La Liga Review
Callejon slid in to find the back of the net and the goal came totally against the run of play. With Sevilla dominating the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pochettino’s side still found the back of the net to put the pressure on the home team.
With the second half starting off, Espanyol found a way past the Sevilla defence all over again. It was the goal-scorer Jose Callejon who easily managed to split the Sevilla defence into two as his pass found the well-timed run of Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 on the right
flank. The shot taken by Martinez looked to be on target but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javi-Varas-c18024 made sure that it doesn’t find the back of the net.
On the other hand, Sevilla were busy dominating in the possession in the midfield and they were successful as well. Even though they were playing extraordinary football in the midfield, they were finding it hard to get to the target as they simply lacked
the required finishing instincts up front. The Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano mostly found himself alone up front as Frederic Kanoute used to fall back in the midfield to collect the ball for the team. It was simply anti-goal-scoring strategy by the 10th placed
Spanish La Liga side.
The home team did make an opportunity towards the hour mark. Surprisingly it was Frederic Kanoute who initiated the move from the midfield after passing the ball towards the right winger Jesus Navas. The Spaniard got past two Espanyol defenders and crossed
the ball perfectly towards the Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano. Fabiano brought the ball down perfectly and his shot was well struck but Kameni managed to keep it down for Espanyol and another chance was wasted by the Rojiblancos.
The Espanyol goal-stopper became a hero for his team later on as he saved not one but three shots on goal taken by the Sevilla striker. Romaric found himself close to scoring a goal after Jesus Navas delivered another perfect ball towards him but his headed
effort on the near post was denied by Kameni. During the 74th minute, Kanoute was denied by Kameni again who looked to be unbeatable during the game.
Sevilla were trying too hard to find the back of the net and it was as if they fell asleep at the back. Jose Callejon took advantage of such a situation and scored his brace during the 78th minute. The free kick was taken by Luis Garcia who cleverly
got the ball past the whole Sevilla defence. The unmarked Callejon easily controlled the ball and got it past Varas to make it 0-2 for the visitors.
It was definitely game over for the home team but they did get a consolation goal at the end of the day. Luis Fabiano was taken off for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Negredo-c5294 and he found the back of the net during stoppage time. The Sevilla striker shot the ball from the edge
of the area and even though the Espanyol defenders kept on appealing for a hand ball, the goal was allowed. The game finished as it kicked off and Espanyol got the away win against Sevilla. Now Espanyol are level on points with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 as they both sit at
the fourth spot of the Spanish La Liga.
