Part 2: The Catalan Giants Speak to the press
Before heading to next week’s game, the Spanish Champions Barcelona spoke to the press, as the young Barca B players who featured in the midweek UEFA Champions League fixture were to speak about their experiences. The players that
were to talk included the two holding midfielder Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano along with the young goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto along with Victor Vazques, the goal scorer of the game and the Barcelona Captain Gerard Pique. The very young centre back
Andreu Fontas also spoke about his experience in the first team and his first ever UEFA Champions League game.
The newly introduced centre back Fontas spoke about the game that took place during the midweek. It was Andreu Fontas who spoke about his first experience in the UEFA Champions League. The young Spaniard told the press how pleased
he was after the first team coach Josep Guardiola called him up. He said that the whole atmosphere in the stadium was simply extraordinary and it was nice how 50,000 fans were there to chant for the Blaugrana wearing side despite the fact that they were already
top of the table.
Fontas spoke of the “guidance” that the captain of the team Gerard Pique provided him with. He specially thanked Pique for his help during the game and also thanked the whole team who coordinated with him in order to win it for
their side. He told the press that even though playing as a centre back is a hard job, he still manages as it simply changes when he is on the pitch. He said the “excitement” and the “enthusiasm” is totally different once he steps on the pitch and that is
exactly the reason why he managed to play fabulously. The young Spanish centre back adapted to the Barcelona changes perfectly and followed Josep Guardiola’s orders. He stepped up during the second half of the game just like Gerard Pique steps up when the
first team is playing, while Sergio Busquets takes his place at the back. Just like that, this time round it was Andreu Fontas who made a run forward to help the team while Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets stayed behind to help the team in defence. Fontas
also found the first goal of the game with the help of his fabulous strike in the bottom left corner. It was his first goal in the UEFA Champions League and he was simply delighted as he celebrated.
The Spaniard said that he felt very comfortable while performing for his side. The basic reason for that is that most of the players that played were mostly new comers who were still trying to make their way into the first team.
That is why no one was expecting a lot from him even though Rubin Kazan played very “skilful” football. He further added on to his excitement by stating that he and his “young” teammates all feel marvelous because they performed well and it is because of important
games like this that new players come in front and make it to the first team.
