Part 2: Top Transfer To The Premiership This Season
The latest English Premier League season is about to commence this weekend. The transfer window leading up to the new season has been in full bloom. Teams ranging from Manchester City to Fulham have all invested in quality players to help bring them success this season. Here is a look at some more of the best transfers in the Premier League so far, after part 1 of this article.
One of the other players that Mancini put a lot of thought into before singing, was Yaya Toure. Toure had previously played for Olympiacos, Monaco and Barcelona. He had the most success while playing for the Spanish giants, Barcelona. He was an integral part of the team that went on to stun countless people across the globe when they won six trophies in a single year. That was a record that had never been set before. Yaya Toure plays as a defensive midfielder and played in almost every single one of the matches leading up to those wins.
He broke down the opposition offences and constructed attacks for Barcelona with ease. It was his consistency and hard work rate that caught the eye of Mancini. Mancini was well aware of the fact that his major setback last season was his defence. He only had one quality holding midfielder in the shape of Dutch international Nigel De Jong. When news was floating around that Toure wasn’t satisfied with the lack of playing time he was getting, he didn’t even think twice before trying to lure the player to the Eastlands.
After a long saga of trying to convince the player he finally decided to move to London from Spain. What Manchester City have acquired in the process is one of the best hard tackling, ball retaining, defensive midfielders in the world. If Yaya Toure can develop some sort of chemistry with De Jong, then the City midfield would be almost impossible for any team to penetrate. This defensive reinforcement could prove to be what will make or break City’s season this coming term.
Chelsea are one of teams that were expected to make a lot moves this transfer window but did just the opposite. Chelsea didn’t sign any well known player and didn’t launch or participate a bidding war for any player either. It was rumoured that they were planning on signing Fernando Torres, but that never happened. Carlo Ancelotti said that he was more than content with his squad and hence decided to opt for just two players so far.
Specifically, Yossi Benayoun and Ramires. Benayoun was brought in as a direct replacement for the outgoing Joe Cole, where as Ramires was brought in to help beef up the defence. For years now the only decent holding midfielder that Chelsea have had is Michael Essien. He has been the heart and soul of the Chelsea midfield along with Frank Lampard.
Essien has been the hardest working player who has played every minute of every game that he was selected to participate in. But over the seasons due to this over usage of the player he has suffered some serious injuries, the most notable one being last season which saw him miss out a major portion of the season. This is where Ramires could prove to be very handy. He would help provide Essien with the rest that he needs for the big games, while continuing to play the same way he has been for, Benfica and Brazil.
Ramires was arguably the best player at Benfica before being signed by Chelsea. That is why the team were so reluctant to let the midfielder go. Ancelotti will be hoping can bring the same form to Chelsea which would see the team launch a successful title challenge this coming term.
