Part 3: Brazil vs. Argentina – Player Analysis
David Luiz was the one who played as a centre back for the Brazilian side. The young Benfica defender showed the world why he is considered to be one of the best young centre backs in the world. The price tag on him is still very high
as many English, Spanish and Italian teams are after the Brazilian. David Luiz did a wonderful job at the back and with the help of his aerial ability he defended many corners and free kicks that were won by the Argentinean side. The Benfica centre back also
helped the team in nullifying the threat of Lionel Messi and during the first half he also came close in scoring a goal from a corner but eventually the move was blocked by Sergio Romero, the Argentinean number 1.
The Milan centre back Thiago Silva was the one who accompanied David Luiz as a second centre back. Both the youngsters did a fine job at the back. Despite such a young age, they did a fine job while defending the goal of the Brazilian
side. He was as solid as David Luiz at the back but eventually when the game was about to finish it was seen that the Milan centre back was a little “tired.” The laziness later caused a disaster at the back as Lionel Messi managed to score the winning goal
to help his side win the game.
Elias was the one who was barely seen on the pitch while performing for the Brazilian side. The youngster could not keep up with the pace of the Argentinean midfield which consisted of Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano and
Javier Pastore. It was definitely a “disaster” for him when the team lost with a single goal as he couldn’t find his footing while performing for Brazil. He is definitely a better player than the way he performed against Argentina but the way he played for
the Brazilian side before was way better than the way he played that night.
The Liverpool holding midfielder Lucas had a fine day while playing for the national team. Often criticized for his technique in the position, Lucas did a fine job at the back as he defended well and won the ball frequently in the midfield.
Despite the fact that the Liverpool man was playing at his best, he was still left flat-footed when Lionel Messi scored the sensational winning goal. It was Lucas who had the opportunity to win the ball from Lionel Messi but he decided to bring the Argentinean
down and failed to do so and later after getting past David Luiz and Lucas, Lionel Messi scored the winning goal to help his team win the game. Even though it was Lucas who could stop Lionel Messi from scoring that goal and he couldn’t, he still did a fine
job in the midfield considering the fact that he is not the best man for the job and the newly appointed Brazilian coach still had faith in him.
