Part 3: English Premier League players looking to bounce back
When the last season of the English Premier League is looked upon, people remember names such as, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Cesc Fabregas, Thomas Vermaelen and Wayne Rooney. On the other hand though, there are players who had a very disappointing season, especially if compared to the giants mentioned above.
The reasons for their poor seasons range from poor form to suffering from injuries along the way. They would thus be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of last season and would want to start over. Here is a look at players in addition to the ones mentioned in part 2 of this article who could potentially be looking to, and most probably would, bounce back this season.
A song that is sung around Anfield is, "We all dream of a team of Carragher's" The fact that Jamie Carragher has a song named after him proves just how much he is loved at Liverpool. Some might even say that he is a living legend at the club.
Carragher is arguably one of the best defenders in the history of the English Premier League. However last season he didn't perform as well as the fans and the club would have wanted him to. He was exposed and beaten by numerous players.
He has suffered a tremendous drop in form over the past and this has directly contributed to the factors leading up to Liverpool finishing at the seventh spot last season. Even though he had a fairly disappointing season he was still included in the English national team for the FIFA World Cup 2010.
That inclusion now seems fairly pointless when looked upon. He was brutally beaten by players like Jozy Altidore of U.S.A. He struggled throughout the tournament and was eventually replaced by Matthew Upson.
Carragher is easily playing his last few matches as a professional footballer. So obviously the player would want to go out with a bang. Carragher would be looking to silence his critics and prove that his inclusion in the English squad was worth the effort.
Liverpool will be hoping that the veteran defender goes on a rampage this season and has one of the best seasons that he has had with the club. According to most experts Carragher might just do that and much more.
Like Petrov, another Manchester City player who feels that he has been mistreated at the Eastlands is, Stephen Ireland. He is another player who has fallen down the pecking order at the club. With the recent influx of attacking players to the team, it appears as though there is no space for the player on the field at Manchester City.
Ireland has been a fairly consistent performer for City over the years. Even though he only appeared for the team a handful of times last season, he scored three goals and gave four assists. Ths was the season before he scored thirteen times and had thirteen assists.
He was always a fan favourite at the Eastlands, where he was often, referred to as superman. With the recent talks of James Milner heading to City it appears as though Ireland won’t be playing for the team this coming season.
There are a number of teams that would be looking to sign the young midfielder. He possesses speed, trickery, accurate passing and has a decent shot. He will also be looking to get some vengeance out against Manchester City this season. This only means that the player will be playing some of the best football of his life and would be a treat to watch.
