Part 3: The Biggest Moves of The Summer – Angel Di Maria, Adriano
We saw some dramatic and spectacular transfers take place this transfer window. Some of the best players in the world changed teams and made their way across continents.
Here is a look at some more of the big transfers that took place this summer:
Angel Di Maria: Angel Di Maria started his professional playing career in 2005 when he started playing for Rosario Central. The player agreed to make a move to Rubin Kazan initially in 2007 but then changed his mind about it. After an outstanding performance in the U-20 World Cup in 2007 the Argentinean was snapped up by Benfica.
In July 2007 the player transferred to Benfica and began to impress from day one. In his first few months he gained the fans highest regards and became an instant favourite. He was included in the Argentinean squad for the FIFA World Cup 2010 and was hailed by Diego Maradonna to be the next big thing out of Argentina.
During the last season the player came into the lime light after some brilliant displays of football in the UEFA Champions League. The player was one of the best things that happened to the Champions League over the past couple of seasons. He was lighting up the field with his lighting pace and amazing trickery. He was even being called the Ronaldo of Argentina.
It was these kinds of performances that saw the player get linked to teams like Manchester United. However after the conclusion of the World Cup, Real Madrid’s new manager, Jose Mourinho acted fast. He managed to sign the player up on a six year contract before any of the other teams could even think about doing the same. The player cost the team around twenty five million Euro’s which by all means seems to be a bargain considering the player is only in his early twenties and will grow from here on.
Adriano: Brazilian footballers are reputed for one thing and that is their ability to possess tremendous flair and technique on the pitch. That is true for the most part however there is one player who tries to make a different name for himself. That player is none other than Adriano, the centre forward is quite arguably one of the hardest and toughest forwards in the world of football. Some might call him over weight but he has proven that its quite the opposite case. The player can hold the ball for hours, with defenders trying to win it off his feet.
The player was playing in the Brazilian Serie A last season with Flamengo, where he was trying to regain his fitness and return to his best. The player did just that and was snapped up by Roma early on in the transfer window.
Adriano will only add to the already lethal Roma attacking line up, the team will be hoping that Adriano can form a good partnership with Francesco Totti up front, because if the two do just that they might become one of the best attacking partnerships in Italy.
Adriano along with his tremendous ability to hold the ball has by far the hardest left footed shot the world of football has ever seen. The player can unleash a cannon with his left foot from almost anywhere on the pitch, which means that he would be a threat from almost every set piece that the team would get. He is also a more than decent player in the air which means winning aerial threats would become easier for the team and it would add a whole new dimension to their style of play.
