Part 3: The top impact signings of the summer
The summer transfer window is rapidly nearing a close. Over the course of the last couple of months there have been numerous players going in and out of clubs. Here is a look at some of the transfers that would make a huge impact this season. It however remains to be seen if the impact made by these transfers is positive or negative.
Joe Cole: Joe Cole joined Chelsea from West Ham. At Chelsea, Cole earned himself super stardom. He won three Premier League trophies with the team and two FA Cups. He also won the love of the millions of fans that supported the team. However one thing that Cole always lacked was the physical fitness to play an entire season. He was almost always injured for some reason or the other. However he was occasionally used as a super sub by the team and didn’t seem to mind that at all.
Cole was also occasionally featured in the English national side, where he was also used as a sub and once again his injuries kept him out from making a dramatic and lasting impact in the national side.
At the start of the summer transfer window, it was believed that Chelsea were refusing to renew the player’s contract. After countless questioning by the media the player said that this was due to a difference in opinion between the management and the player. When countless club’s tried to purse him, after looking at the players wage demands, they slowly backed off.
At some point Cole even went as far as to say that he would never leave London and would most probably play for a team in that area. However when Liverpool offered Cole the wage’s that no other club was willing to, he didn’t think twice before putting pen to paper to becoming a Liverpool player. Once the transfer saga was over it was realized that the difference of opinions was nothing more than the player being unreasonable in his wage demands.
However even though he let down the Chelsea fan’s he managed to become an instant favourite at Anfield. The player will bring to the team an extra attack option as he can play either as a second striker, a winger or a midfielder he will be able to bring options to the manager and to the team, that they have lacked over the past.
David Silva: David Silva, was bought by Manchester City from Valencia. Silva was easily one of the best wingers to ever set foot in the Spanish La Liga and Roberto Mancini was well aware of this fact. Having only one winger who was performing, the City boss didn’t think twice before splashing out tons of cash for the Spanish international.
Valencia were left with no option but to let the player go. Silva is currently on the back of winning a World Cup with Spain and will be rearing to go in the Premier League.
Silva is equally as good on both wings, he is naturally left footed, but he has no problems with taking shots or whipping in crosses with his right foot. With Silva joining the squad, City’s attack is easily one of the best in the world and one that would cause nightmares to opposing defenders before a match with the team. The fan’s and the management will be hoping that the player can emulate the same kind of performances that he had with Valencia, if the player manages to do just that than City might become serious contenders for the title of being English Champions.
