Part 3: Top Transfer To The Premiership This Season
The latest English Premier League season is about to commence this weekend. The transfer window leading up to the new season has been in full bloom. Teams ranging from Manchester City to Fulham have all invested in quality players to help bring them success this season. Here is a look at some more of the best transfers in the Premier League so far, after part 1 and 2 of this article.
Liverpool were and possibly still are a team that were on the verge of collapsing. Players like Gerrard and Torres were on the brink of leaving the team and pursuing their careers elsewhere. This was all directly after Rafa Benitez left the team to take charge of Inter Milan. However soon after Roy Hodgson was appointed to take charge of the sinking ship that has been Liverpool and to try and help keep it afloat. Hodgson knew that the only way to do this was to bring in a player or two that would show everyone just what he plans for the future of the team. Hodgson turned things around to some extent when he went on to bring Joe Cole in at Anfield.
Cole was heavily linked with teams such as Arsenal and Tottenham and no one expected Liverpool to be strong contenders for signing the player. Hodgson somehow managed to convince Cole that a move to Anfield would be the best move possible for the player.
Soon after Cole signed a deal, making him an official Liverpool player, Gerrard and Torres admitted that they were willing to stay at the club since they were more than satisfied with the future prospects that Hodgson had in mind. So by singing Cole, Liverpool managed to not only gain a player, but retain two of their best.
Cole will bring with him a new sense of creativity to the team and of course pace down the flanks. He has proved over the years that he can score a goal or two. Cole when partnered with Gerrard and Torres would help create one of the strongest offences in the English league. No other player would have had such a great impact on the team within hours of singing for them. This only proves that this could be one of the best signings in Liverpool’s history.
When Robin Van Persie got injured last season, Arsenal realized that they lacked quality strikers. Bendtner did his fair share to fill in the missing Dutch forwards shoes, but somehow his efforts seemed a little short. Meanwhile Moroccan born Marouane Chamakh expressed his desire to leave Bordeaux and join the Gunners in London.
When the transfer window opened Arsene Wenger made the players dreams come true as he took him on as the first signing for Arsenal this season. Chamakh participated in the Arsenal pre season and impressed every one. He has pace, quick feet and the ability to shoot from almost anywhere on the field. One of the players qualities that Arsenal would be more than happy about, is his presence in the air. Chamakh is one of the best ball headers out there and Arsenal were lacking a good ariel threat.
With Chamakh in the squad Wenger will be given many new options to choose from. He would have every kind of striker he could need and can modify the line up depending on what team Arsenal are set to face. Chamakh could prove to be a great goal scoring threat in the Premier League if he continues to play the same way he did in France.
