Part 3: What does Arsenal have in store for the upcoming season 2010 – 2011?
The last season ended in a blaze of eminent disappointment for the North London team, Arsenal F.C. This was because Arsene Wenger’s squad failed to deliver once again, which was essentially due to a lack of preparation, too many injuries and a lack of skills showcased by the players.
There was a point last season when as many as fourteen of Arsenal’s first team players were injured. This injury record saw Arsenal go from being title contenders to barely making it into the top four. Experts strongly believe that this season will be different for the club. Here is a look at the predictions experts have made for the team this coming season.
For years now the biggest drawback for Arsenal has been their defence. Wenger has struggled over the years to find a suitable combination of players who can perform to the maximum, at the back. The fact that he wasn’t happy with any one combination of defenders was clearly due to the fact that he constantly rotated the pairings and was not once seen to be satisfied with the work at the back.
On paper it would appear that Arsenal defensive worries would have gone up this year, following the departure of William Gallas, Mikel Silvestre and Sol Campbell. But according to the experts those players were the reason for the damage to Arsenal's defence rather than the solution. Wenger has stated on numerous occasions that he was more than happy with Thomas Vermaelen and was hoping the player would carry on with the form that he showed last term.
The question was, who was Wenger going to bring in to aid Vermaelen at the back. Wenger opted for an unknown player in the shape of Koscienly. Most people would assume that this wasn’t a very smart move on Wenger’s behalf, however that’s exactly what everyone said when Wenger pursued Vermaelen. The Arsenal defence seems to be the strongest its ever been since the ‘Invincible’s Season'. With Clichy and Sagna set to maintain their positions as side backs, Arsenal's defence finally looks to be as strong as their offence.
Nicklas Bendtner has claimed that he possesses the talent, skill and ability to become the greatest player in the world. When the Danish player made those claims everyone laughed and claimed that the striker was losing it. Last season however Bendtner managed to fill in for Van Persie when he was injured and it was as though Arsenal didn’t even miss a beat. In his short spell he managed to score eleven goals for the Gunners. He also managed an astonishing hat trick in the UEFA Champions League.
Most experienced players dream of scoring a hat trick on such a high level but Bendtner did it at the age of twenty two. His ability to hold the ball up front with his tremendous physical presence made him one of the best forwards in the world. It was this ability that he displayed which stunned everyone. Experts and fans alike finally realized that Bendtner was a force to be reckoned with. They also claimed that if he can further harness his abilities then he could potentially be the best player in the world in the near future. Experts believe that this will be the season Bendtner makes his impact on Arsenal and the world. They claim that he will become a force that defences would hate to face. If he manages to play a decent amount of games then it wouldn’t be surprising to see him score around twenty goals.
