Part 4: Premier League: Greatest Team Of All Time - as voted by the fans
After a global scale vote, in which hundreds of thousands of fans of the English Premier League voted to pick their favourite players, the ultimate dream team finally emerged. The team is dominated by players from Manchester United, while boasting a French
attacking line up.
Midfield: The midfield was going to be one of the hardest areas to pick four players for, however after hundreds of thousands of votes, there was finally a list of names who would fill up those four spots. The players that the fans chose
to play in the midfield are David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Ryan Giggs.
One of the central midfielders that was selected to play in the team is Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard. The player has been at Liverpool forever and has been a lifelong part of the team. He is currently the captain for both the national side and the
club team. He generally used to play as a central midfielder however since the arrival of Fernando Torres at the club, the player has opted to play as a second striker.
Over the span of his career with Liverpool, the player has won, two FA Cups, Two League Cups, one UEFA Cup and a Champions League. He also ended up as the third place runner up in 2005 to the Ballon d’Or.
Gerrard is also an active member of the English national team and is the team’s captain. He has been vital to his team’s success over the last couple of years, both domestically and on an international level. Gerrard is quite possibly one of the best players
to ever play at Anfield for Liverpool and is also one of the best central midfielders to ever play for England.
However there is a slight problem, when it comes to picking the best central midfielder in the Premier Leagues history many experts believe that the player who deserves to get the nod ahead of Gerrard is Chelsea’s faithful, Frank Lampard. Frank Lampard has
statistically been the superior player out of the two over the last couple of seasons. In fact Lampard has even been better for England when it comes to a statistical look over the two players. Some might say that Gerrard has a better contribution to the Liverpool
side over his career with the team, however it is not really Lampard’s fault that Gerrard plays in a team that is falling all around him and makes him look better then he really is. Whereas Lampard on the other hand is playing amongst a team of superstars
but still manages to shine brighter than the rest of the team.
This also tells us quite a lot about Liverpool fans these days, they happen to be living in a false sense of hope and believe that their captain is the best player in the league only because he is the only decent player amongst a team of players who at their
best can be nothing more than average players. What the fans need to realize is that Gerrard is no knight in shining armour in fact he is the only actual player on the squad who is worthy of playing for a Premier League team.
Lampard on the other hand, has proven time and time again, that is one of the greatest players to feature in the Premier League over the past couple of years and needs to be the much needed recognition that he has failed to receive over the past, thanks
to his national teams midfield partner Steven Gerrard.
