Part 4: The best midfielders in the Spanish La Liga
Andres Iniesta
One half of Barcelona’s ruthless midfield is Andres Iniesta. The little midfielder has been called the best player in the world on numerous occasions by players like, Wayne Rooney. Although he has never really won any individual honours his contribution to the team has been phenomenal throughout the years. He has been on an all time high for what seems like forever. He is arguably one of the greatest midfielders to ever play for Spain and maybe even the World.
His attacking presence and threat is so great that teams change their squad line up and formation to keep the player in check. Iniesta can take the game to almost any team and can score against any keeper in the world. He also tends to float around the field, which means that one minute he will be playing as a midfielder the next he could be playing as a winger or even as a second striker. It’s this type of playing style that causes confusion amongst the opposition and eventually leads to goals being scored for the team, Iniesta is playing on.
This style of play was best observed in the FIFA World Cup final, when Iniesta snatched an injury time winner for Spain and that goal eventually saw the team go onto lift the World Cup trophy for the first time in the country’s history.
He possesses quick feet, tremendous dribbling and the ability to make impossible passes. He has been wanted by almost every team in the world but unfortunately for them, is employed at Barcelona and they don’t plan on letting the player go anywhere any time soon. His greatest talent however is his undeniable psychic connection with his midfield partner, Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi Hernandez
The best midfielder in the world at the moment is none other than, Xavi Hernandez. Xavi is a player who has taken skill and vision to a whole new level. Xavi creates passes that fans in the stands can’t even see. He dares to play the dangerous ball and isn’t afraid to use a number of short passes to build up to that one decisive moment that can change a game. Xavi has already managed to earn himself the status of being a living legend in Spain and that is something no football fan would argue about.
Xavi could quite easily call himself the King Of Catalunya and one wouldn't dare question him. He has been the heart and soul of Barcelona for as far as anyone can remember. He might not be the fastest, most physically fit or have the quickest footwork, but every time he takes the field he tends to somehow become the best player on the pitch by the end of the night.
Xavi has one simple approach to playing football and it can be summed up in one word, passing. Xavi at times has more passes individually then the opposition team has combined. His killer passes leave the opposition shredded and wondering what just happened to them.
Xavi is easily the true definition of a central midfielder. He controls the game and dictates the pace at which the game is to be played. His style of play manages to make his team mates look even better than they really are. He tends to feed them the ball in such wonderful positions that all they have to do is tap it into the back of the net. Xavi himself however, is no stranger in front of the goal, over the years he has managed to rack up numerous goals to his name as well, from free kicks to open play.
None the less Xavi is quite arguably the best fielder the world has seen over the past and he might just make his way to being the best midfielder the world has ever seen, if he continues to play the same way that he has been playing for so many years.
