I'm Vietnamese/French, and I thought it was KIND OF common... sorta... but I notice now when I tell people I get a mixed expression like "oh really? interesting." Is it really that uncommon? Anyone here Part Asian and part something else out the ordinary? Do you look Mexican or Filipino like I do?!

  1. It is very common in Paris and here in So Cal.  In fact, many of my Vietnamese friends are of French ancestry too.  And, they speak both languages beautifully.

  2. omggg i'm half vietnamese and half french too :] ! I never met anyone that is half french and vietnamese, except for my family/and relative. But I live in texas, and I haven't seen one at all D: . But there are a couple in California when I live thereee :]

  3. Ahhh I dont think thats odd at all, some people are just..confused is all because its not that common, but there is nothiong wrong with that.  oh yes, BTW just incase you didnt get my reply. You answerd a question of mine today, I just thought I'd let you know that my boyfriend is vietnamese also, and I am white.  haha, like I said before.. very ironic isnt it! hehehe!

  4. It's common enough..

Which one of your parents is Asian?

    That's the thing...

In today's society.. people don't distinguish between Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, etc etc etc..

it's always just "wow, you're half ASIAN"

My family is Chinese and I have cousins who are half White (I don't know what kind of White either baha)... some have a Chinese father, some have a Chinese mother.

For celebrities.. ever notice the half 'Asian' ones are usually half Korean..?

    Amerie...

  5. I think it may be common, didn't the French colonize Vietnam?

  6. I'm Mexican and Peruvian but I but everyone thinks I'm Asian or half asian. I don't know how common or uncommon that is though.

I wouldn't think being Vietnamese and french would be that uncommon, the French colonized the Vietnamese.

  7. I don't think it's uncommon at all given French colonialism in Vietnam in during the 1800s and mid 1900s.

  8. It is not that uncommon. You will be surprised when you travel. I am Afro-Dominican/Chinese. People are so shocked when they hear me speak Spanish. You must be gorgeous.

  9. It's not really that uncommon, especially since the French occupied Vietnam and since there are a great deal of Vietnamese in France.

  10. Since the French fought in Viet Nam before the Americans decided to go in, there was plenty of time to get friendly with the inhabitants.

  11. It's not at all uncommon, considering how long the French were involved in Vietnam. The probable reason that most people are surprised by your ancestry is that most are unaware of the history of any country but their own. In the US, even their own history is unknown to most people.

  12. Not too uncommon because the French had a "military force" in Viet Nam in the early 50's and wellllll. I'm not blaming but trying to help. Google.
