Part of FC Twente stadium De Grolsch Veste collapses, rescue operation underway – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Enschede confirm that part of De Grolsch Veste roof, that was under renovation, has collapsed, leaving people trapped under the rubble. Emergency services have arrived at the scene with heavy equipment to clear off the debris.
De Grolsch Veste is the home ground of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede. The Stadium is currently undergoing renovation to expand the crowd capacity. Joop Munsterman, the Tukkers president, had earlier revealed that they have invested a lot of private money in the expansion
of De Grolsch Veste to make sure the team plays in front of 30,000 people in the upcoming season.
A Dutch police spokesperson said, “Part of the roof has collapsed. There are people under the rubble. We don’t know how many”.
Reports suggest that there are many workers trapped under the rubble, but the spokesperson has not commented whether there are any injuries or deaths in the disaster. Reports indicate that the roof collapsed after two supportive beams buckled, though, the
reason behind the beams collapsing remains to be known.
Jan Bruins, the Tukkers spokesperson, revealed while talking to a local radio station that he talked to an eyewitness.
“It started with the video wall in the middle of the piece. It came down and then bowed and everything came down”, Bruins said while talking to the radio station.
The Tukkers, who finished second in the league table in the 2010/11 season, are currently training in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-Zealand-c754 for the upcoming season. The players have responded to this tragedy with some emotion.
Reports now confirm that Munsterman is on his way back to Enschede after hearing the news.
The Tukkers are in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round and will be hosting a match in the last week of this month or in the first week of next month. The Tukkers would be hoping that this catastrophe does not affect the game hosting abilities of De
