Part-time golfer faces leg amputation following on-course stabbing incident – Golf News
Clay Carpenter, a 48-year-old Texan, is on the verge of losing his leg after being stabbed by a member of a foursome team playing golf at the Golf Club, Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake, in Fort Worth, on January 27, 2012.
The incident occurred following a scuffle between him and the accused member of the team in a fit of argument on some unknown issue.
He told the police that the member allegedly stabbed him in the right leg with a broken shaft of golf club twice.
This inflicted serious wounds on his leg and a gush of blood. The injury made him unconscious and immovable.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital with the help from 911, who were contacted by one of the members of the team.
According to the doctors, Carpenter may lose his leg, as the muscles in his leg are atrophied due to heavy blood loss.
They told the reporters that if the blood flow does not improve in a day or two, there will be no choice but to amputate his leg.
While talking to the media, he said that the accused member of the team tried to hide the attack and labelled the incident to be a natural accident.
They claimed that the player had fallen on something sharp while playing on the course that had resulted in the injury to his leg.
"He fell on a golf club or something,” a member of the team said, when he was talking to 911 on the phone.
However, Carpenter completely rejected the statement that he fell on something. He told that he was just asked by the club employee to play through the foursome, to which a member of the team objected.
Soon after that, the verbal confrontation became physical and another member of the team used the club shaft as a weapon to stab him in the leg.
“People get in arguments every day on every golf course in America,” Carpenter told the reporters. “But 99.9 per cent of the time no one takes it this far”.
The police have launched the investigations and assured the victim of all possible help.
