Part-time working full (plus other problems)?

I currently work at a McDonald's. I'm 18 and live in Arkansas. I started on August 11, two weeks ago, and it's been fine, until now.

I'm scheduled as part time. Most of the time, I work maybe 20-30 hours a week.

Since last Monday, I worked everyday (weekdays for 4 1/2 hours and weekends for 8 hours) until Sunday straight.

Yesterday, I looked at the schedule and my name was on there, but my hours were in white-out for Monday and Tuesday (No one else had this.)

If you have a day off, they usually just leave your name off the schedule. It looked like my name WAS on there, but then had white-out put over for the two upcoming days. I then assumed that meant I had Monday and Tuesday off.

So today, I went out with my boyfriend to a friend's house to hang out. Again, on week days that I work, I go in at 4:30. It was about 5:00 when my cell phone started to ring. I answered it and it was my manager. He told me that I was supposed to be in. I was confused.

I told him, "But my name and hours were whited-out on the schedule..."

He said apparently my name was supposedly still on there. I told him that I had worked 7 days straight. (BTW, other people there, both younger and older then me, had gotten days off, yet I had not gotten any.)

Then I told him my hours were also in white-out, but he said, "Well that's "Bob's" responsibility" (the first assistant who handles office work.)

The major problems I have:

1. I worked enough hours in one week to be considered full-time.

2. I did not get one day off AND wasn't going to get another one off until MAYBE this Friday (which is doubtful), working me 11 days straight.

3. Many other people got days off during this past week while I have not.

4. Even if the manager needed me to come in on a day off, they're supposed to give you a 24 hour notice before asking and/or telling you to come in. I was told to come in 30 minutes after I was "supposed to be there."

Is any of this right or allowed? I understand Arkansas is a "right to work state" (which is bullshit.)

Any feedback would be great. Thank you.

  1. A right to work state has to do with union stuff....not anything else.

As for the rest, yes, unfortunately they can do that. Since you are 18, minor labor laws do not apply to you and they can do just about anything. I recommend contacting wage and labor if you have valid concerns, but full time is typically 32-40 hours or more. As part of your employment it may state in your hiring papers that they can work you every day too. Examine any papers they gave you when you were hired, and contact wage and labor [check govt listings]. Otherwise, I'd start looking for another job.

  2. Blockbuster Video pulled that same c**p on me. They worked me 30-38 hours a week saying it took 40 to be full time, so therefore I got no insurance benefits. I quit and found something better. Face it, Mcdonalds is a multibillion dollar corporation. Even if you have all the proof you need to show they screwed you, you won't win. That's business for ya. Try getting a job with an independently owned company and not a huge corporation. Huge corporations rarely care about their employees.

  3. wow thats alot but hit me up and ill show you how you can make some extra money. I own a business out there
