Part1: English Premier League: Players that need to be sold by their clubs
The summer transfer window has been open for what seems like forever now. Most teams have had players coming in for almost every possible position that anyone can think of. Almost everyone has talked about the players that need to be brought into the team to make an impact on the side or what player could fill the missing void to help steer the team to success.
While the addition of some players would make a significant change to the side, the exclusion of some players could prove to have almost the same impact on the side. Here is a look at players that teams could do without and would most probably even perform better without.
Shay Given
Shay Given has easily been one of the best goal keepers in the English Premier League over the past couple of seasons. His influence and impact could be determined by the fact that the player was brought into the Eastlands, during the City revolution. He was opted to be signed by the club, over numerous other big name players. The only reason for that being that the player was arguably the best keeper available to sign.
Given was phenomenal last season with City, he was easily the best player on the team. However a lot has changed over the summers. During the course of the summer, City’s boss Roberto Mancini, identified that Joe Hart was ready to take the charge between the sticks at the club and was due to be promoted as the new number one keeper at the club.
During City’s opening game against Tottenham, Given was made to sit on the bench while Hart, took charge in the goal. Hart was quite spectacular during the game and experts and critics alike thought that Mancini might have actually made the right decision by letting the England keeper be promoted.
The one person, who was not happy with the decision, was none other than, Shay Given. The keeper insisted that he was not going to be at any club or team to play as a sub. The player is quite right is saying so; he is easily one of the best goal keepers in the world and deserves to play as number one. Roberto Mancini has agreed to let the player go, since he wishes for him to be happy.
This sale of the player isn’t necessarily going to be beneficial for the club, but instead it is going to help Given develop as a player. The smart thing for the team to do would be to let the player leave on a loan spell at least. That way they could retain ownership of the keeper if Hart was ever to get injured or suffer any setbacks.
Given should be offloaded to a team like Arsenal. This would be a win-win situation for almost everyone involved in the deal. Manchester City even though are more than abundant with the inflow of money to the club, would still appreciate it if they had one less player to pay for. Arsenal is currently not performing as well as they should due to the fact that they don’t have a quality keeper to help move the team forward. Given will be allowed plenty of first team action, allowing the player to develop and move forward mentally and physically.
Given is easily a player that City need to get rid of in the near future or they would have another player on their hands who was wasted due to lack of field time.
